Within the framework of the State visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Vietnam from May 25-27, on the afternoon of May 27, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology held a working session with a delegation of leading national research institutes and universities of the French Republic.
This event follows the visit to the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (Vietnam-France University, USTH), a unit under the Academy, by President Emmanuel Macron on the morning of May 27.
Here, the President had an open dialogue with students and lecturers, demonstrating the special interest and commitment of the French Government in accompanying the development of USTH - a symbol ofeducational and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the meeting, Professor Chau Van Minh, President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, emphasized that the long-term and strong cooperative relationship between the Institute and French scientific organizations began in 1983 when the French National Center for Scientific Research became the first Western scientific organization to sign a cooperation agreement with a Vietnamese national research institute.
Since then, the Institute has expanded its strong cooperative relationship with partners such as: Institute for Research for Development (IRD), French National Center for Space Studies (CNES), French National Museum of Natural History (MNHN), National Institute for Marine Science and Technology (FREMER), French Center for International Cooperation in Agriculture (CIRAD) and many leading universities such as: Paris 6, Paris-Saclay, Sorbonne...
“The meeting is also an opportunity for both sides to review the outstanding results of cooperation in areas such as: Basic science, marine environment, energy, artificial intelligence and space technology, especially the joint training models between USTH, research institutes of the French Academy and universities," Professor Chau Van Minh emphasized.

As Chairman of the USTH Board of Directors and Vice President of the Academy, Professor, Dr. Chu Hoang Ha highly appreciated the support of French partners in the development of USTH.
Professor Chu Hoang Ha proposed that in the coming time, the two sides need to develop cooperation with key tasks such as: Strengthening training-research connections; promoting the model of "training linked to research," especially at the postgraduate level, linking USTH with research institutes of the Academy; maintaining and expanding international scientific schools with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and other partners, moving towards forming joint laboratories in many fields.
Along with that, the two sides promote applied research and technology transfer, research and development of a pilot three-party connection model between Vietnamese/French research institutes - schools - Vietnamese/French enterprises, to commercialize the joint research results of the two sides.
Professor Antoine Petit, President and General Director of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), said that the working session opened a new phase of bilateral cooperation, in the context that the two countries are implementing the Vietnam-France Action Plan for the period 2024-2028, aiming to effectively implement the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the French Republic in the era of innovation and sustainable development. Leading national research institutes and universities of the French Republic pledged to accompany the Academy to effectively implement cooperation contents within the framework of this plan.
Within the framework of the working session, a number of new cooperation contents were also established through the signing of cooperation documents including: Action Plan of the French Academy - National Center for Scientific Research for the period 2025-2028; Memorandum of Understanding between the Academy - Paris Cité University; Cooperation Plan of USTH - Institute for Research for Development; Agreement on implementing a joint research project between USTH, the French National Center for Scientific Research and the Institute of Materials Science.
These agreements reflect the determination of both sides in diversifying content, expanding partnerships and deepening cooperation mechanisms, towards forming joint strategic programs between Vietnam and France in the fields of science-technology-human resource training./.
