Special exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh in Japan

The exhibition introduces to the Japanese people valuable documents and images, truly and vividly reflecting the life, career, thoughts and feelings of Uncle Ho - a great but close and simple leader.

On the occasion of the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025), on May 28, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka, in coordination with the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace, opened the thematic exhibition "President Ho Chi Minh - Symbol of the Era" in Fukuoka city, the province of the same name.

Attending the opening ceremony of the Exhibition were Consul General of Vietnam in Fukuoka Vu Chi Mai, Director of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace Le Thi Phuong; Mr. Nguyen Duy Anh - Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Vietnamese Association in Fukuoka; Vice Chairman of the Fukuoka-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union Hirotaka Inoue, Chairman of the Kyushu-Vietnam Friendship Association Hoshino Hiroshi; Mr. Kusuda Okura - Mayor of Daizafu City, Fukuoka Prefecture; Mr. Ootsuka Nobihiro - Mayor of Nogata City, Fukuoka Prefecture; Mr. Tanabe Kazuki - Mayor of Koga City, Fukuoka Prefecture, along with representatives of diplomatic missions in Fukuoka, representatives of Vietnamese associations in the Kyushu region, Japan.

In her opening speech, Ms. Le Thi Phuong, Director of the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace, emphasized that this exhibition introduces to the Japanese people valuable documents and images, reflecting the life, career, thoughts and feelings of President Ho Chi Minh - a great leader but extremely close and simple. Through that, Japanese and international friends can feel more deeply about his personality, thoughts, as well as his feelings for the people of the world in general and Japan in particular.

Ms. Le Thi Phuong also expressed her hope that more and more international friends will visit the President Ho Chi Minh Relic Site at the Presidential Palace to learn more about his simple yet great life, as well as about the country and people of Vietnam.

Consul General Vu Chi Mai said the exhibition will be a cultural bridge contributing to deepening the good friendship between the two countries, and believes that through the images and documents displayed at the exhibition, the Japanese public, especially the young generation, will have a more realistic and vivid perspective on President Ho Chi Minh, as well as on Vietnamese history and culture.

The Japanese guest representative, Mr. Hoshino Hiroshi, Chairman of the Kyushu-Vietnam Friendship Association, said, “This photo exhibition is an opportunity to recall the memories of President Ho Chi Minh, the great leader who led Vietnam in the 20th century, and a valuable opportunity to have a new perspective on his life and ideals. President Ho Chi Minh's spirit of fighting for “independence,” “freedom,” and “happiness” still resonates deeply in the hearts of every person around the world to this day.

He said that there are currently many Vietnamese people studying, working and doing business in Kyushu and the Vietnamese community has become an essential part of the local community. He expressed his hope that this photo exhibition will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and Kyushu in particular and Japan in general.

The exhibition consists of 5 main contents, including part 1: Ho Chi Minh - Symbol of patriotism and proletarian internationalism; part 2: Ho Chi Minh - Symbol of the aspiration for national independence and national unification; part 3: Ho Chi Minh - Symbol of culture, peace, solidarity and friendship among nations; part 4: The era of development of the Vietnamese people in the Ho Chi Minh era; part 5: Ho Chi Minh's heritage at the Presidential Palace - "Destination" in diplomatic relations, a place where the Vietnamese people and international friends converge and spread the sentiments of the Vietnamese people and international friends.

The Organizing Committee has selected to display more than 200 precious documentary photos about President Ho Chi Minh. Along with that, throughout the display panels, there is also the bright parallel appearance of the national flowers of the two countries, the Japanese cherry blossom and the Vietnamese lotus.

On this occasion, the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka invited the famous female artist Van Duong Thanh to attend and display her works about President Ho Chi Minh. The paintings express the love and respect for Uncle Ho of the artist who builds a cultural bridge through painting.

Talking about his feelings when coming to the exhibition, Mr. Hirotaka Inoue, Vice President of the Fukuoka-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Union, said that this was an event of great significance. He expressed his hope that more and more Vietnamese people would come to Fukuoka to deepen mutual understanding between the two sides and further strengthen the friendship and cooperation in the future.

Sharing with VNA reporters, Mr. Fumiaki Honda, a Japanese who loves Uncle Ho from Nagasaki Prefecture, said that he had visited Vietnam and the Ho Chi Minh Monument many times. He affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh was a great leader and a respectable personality. He expressed his emotion when coming to the Exhibition to once again learn about Uncle Ho.

Representing young Vietnamese people, Tang Thi Yen, an international student studying in Fukuoka, said that she was honored to attend the exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh. She affirmed that she would strive to study and practice to be worthy of his great contributions as well as contribute more to the development of friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

The exhibition “President Ho Chi Minh - Symbol of the Era” is one of the activities under the Project “Honoring President Ho Chi Minh, Hero of Vietnamese National Liberation, Outstanding Cultural Figure Abroad” implemented by the Consulate General of Vietnam in Fukuoka in coordination with agencies, organizations, and localities of Japan and Vietnam in 2025. The exhibition is open to visitors until May 29./.
