At 6:32 a.m. on May 4, patient Nguyen Van K. (68 years old, residing in Xuan Hong commune, Xuan Truong district, Nam Dinh province) was transferred from the General Surgery Department to room A, Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department (Nam Dinh Provincial General Hospital) with a diagnosis of acute pancreatitis, common bile duct stones, gastrointestinal bleeding, cirrhosis, type II diabetes in a state of circulatory arrest.
The on-duty team quickly performed CPR and placed an endotracheal tube. After 30 minutes, the patient regained his pulse and continued to receive intensive care and treatment.
At around 7:50 a.m., a young man, a relative of patient K., appeared in the patient's room, cursed and suddenly beat nurse Nguyen Van H, of the General Surgery Department, who was assigned by the department's doctor to go to the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department to complete the handover procedures and support the patient's family.
The incident was recorded by the hospital's camera. In the 45-second clip, the young man rushed in three times and used his hands to hit the male nurse in the face, witnessed by many people and other medical staff present and working in the patient's room.
After the incident, the on-duty team reported to the security guard, the hospital on-duty team and the security guard invited the local police to come in and resolve the matter; and took nurse Nguyen Van H. out of the patient's room.
Nurse Nguyen Van H. was then examined and diagnosed with head and facial trauma; he is being treated at the hospital's Neurosurgery Department.
The incident is being investigated and clarified by local police.
