Vo Hoang Hai - the winner of 2 Gold Medals at the International Physics Olympiad when he was only an 11th grader - continued to be admitted to the world's leading Massachusetts Institute of Technology - MIT (USA).
On March 14, Hoang Hai received an acceptance letter and an invitation to study from MIT. “You stood out as one of the most talented and promising students in one of the most competitive applicant pools in the history of the Institute” - the first lines of the letter showed the school's high regard for Hoang Hai. As for Hai, it can be said that this result has helped him fulfill his long-standing dream. The male student said that he was really happy but not too surprised. “I always tell myself to stay calm, because life will always have many opportunities, the most important thing is to always try your best,” Hai shared.

Vo Hoang Hai (currently a 12th grade student majoring in Physics at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences - Hanoi National University) was once known to many people when he set a record for an 11th grader to own 2 Gold Medals at the International Physics Olympiad. Specifically, in 11th grade, Vo Hoang Hai was 1 of 2 candidates of the Vietnamese team to win the Gold Medal. A year earlier, Hoang Hai was the first student in the history of Vietnam to enter the team and win the Gold Medal at the International Physics Olympiad when he was only in 10th grade. That year, although he was a 10th grader, Hoang Hai had the highest score in the practical test on the team. Teacher Nguyen Thanh Lap, who participated in training the members of the International Physics Olympiad team, commented that Hai had the ability to absorb knowledge and self-study very well. “Hai adapts very quickly and has the ability to delve deeply into the knowledge he has learned. In addition, Hai's sensitivity to physics phenomena is also very good, because this subject not only requires mathematics but also the ability to perceive physics problems. Very few students have such abilities,” Mr. Lap assessed. Mr. Lap said that, in addition to his efforts, Hai also has a very good way of learning to be able to absorb a large amount of knowledge - something that not every student can do and not just anyone can do it.Hoang Hai is the owner of 2 Gold Medals at the International Physics Olympiad when he was in 11th grade. Ms. Do Mai Hoa, Hai's mother, shared that she herself is not the one who puts pressure on her child to study and take exams. However, according to her, Hai was born to follow the path of research and science. According to Ms. Hoa, in contrast to her mother who works in business, Hai has been quite calm since childhood. "Before every problem, my child thinks thoroughly. There is almost no time when I am not assured about my child before making a decision." With Hai, Ms. Hoa does not have to guide anything. Hai is passionate about studying but shows a very calm learning style. Hai also shows his talent for English when in grade 5 he won third prize at the national level in a competition in this subject. In grade 10, while preparing for the International Physics team exam, Hai took the IELTS test and achieved 8.0. The male student also achieved an SAT score of 1570/1600 at the beginning of grade 11. Teachers and friends commented that the Hanoi boy is very sociable, cheerful and humorous. “In addition to studying well, Hai also has the ability to regulate his emotions and his psychological state is always comfortable and happy. Perhaps partly thanks to that, he can maintain the ability to absorb a large amount of knowledge for a long time without being stressed,” said Mr. Lap. The teacher believes that this may contribute to helping Hai on his upcoming study abroad journey. In addition to studying regularly, Hai still regularly plays the guitar and participates in sports activities. He spends a lot of time on volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, social activities, clubs, etc. Vo Hoang Hai was also recognized as one of the 10 outstanding young Vietnamese faces in 2022. Talking about his plans for the near future, Hoang Hai said he decided to study Physics at a new school and around August, he will go to the US to complete the admission procedures. “During this time, I want to focus on developing myself more comprehensively, which means not only learning new knowledge but also participating in many sports and social activities...”, Hai shared.Vietnamnet.vn
