Neymar sees a business opportunity from the Pele brand. |
According to UOL , NR Sports, the company owned by Neymar and his father, Neymar Sr, acquired the entire Pele brand and is expected to make an official announcement on the 19th, the anniversary of the Brazilian football legend's 1,000th goal.
The deal is worth around $18 million . The negotiations went smoothly because the Pele brand was almost “frozen” after his death at the end of 2022. The US company Sport 10, which once held the copyright, relied mainly on Pele’s direct participation in the event, which prevented the brand value from being effectively exploited.
Notably, NR Sports’ branding strategy for Neymar Jr since his return to Santos has been closely linked to Pele’s image. Neymar has been repeatedly called “The Prince”, a counterweight to his predecessor’s “King of Football” title.
NR Sports also completely rebuilt the VIP area that Pele used at Vila Belmiro: replacing seats, building new bathrooms, installing glass panels and air conditioning, all costs paid for by Neymar's company.
The Pele brand acquired by NR Sports includes image rights, name, product licenses, historical archives and related assets. The full development plan and new direction will be announced by NR Sports once the deal is officially announced.
