According to Syrian state news agency SANA , in the message, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that, despite constant pressure and attempts to weaken the resolve of the two countries, Damascus and Moscow have supported each other for eight decades and remained steadfast in their commitment to values and dignity.
Affirming that Russia's policy reflects its position as a force for peace, respecting the sovereignty of other countries, Mr. Assad stressed that Moscow's unwavering stance will pave the way for a multipolar world.
"In the face of the hegemony we are facing and the war we are witnessing, the ultimate response is resilience, not retreat or defeat," the Syrian president declared.
The leader also congratulated the Russian people on their long-standing strong ties and mutual trust with the Syrian people.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that his country will continue to support Syria in protecting its sovereignty and ensuring national security, unity and territorial integrity as well as internal political stability.
“The further development of the entire comprehensive Russia-Syria relationship fully meets the interests of the peoples of the two countries and is in line with the goal of strengthening peace and stability at the regional and international levels,” he stressed.

Diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Syria were established on July 21, 1944. The Soviet Union received visits from presidents of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) several times - the first visit was made by President Shukri al-Quatli in 1956.
In October 1980, the two sides signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation. In 1991, Syria recognized Russia as the legitimate successor state of the Soviet Union.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the level of cooperation between Russia and Syria decreased significantly. However, in the late 1990s and early 2000s, bilateral relations became warmer.
