During the discussion session, countries welcomed the announcement and implementation of Phase I of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, considering it an important step forward, opening up opportunities for peace after more than two years of conflict. Many countries stressed the importance of the next steps, including stepping up humanitarian activities, implementing international monitoring, establishing an interim governance mechanism, and moving towards a competent Palestinian government to ensure sustainable peace in Gaza.
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Chargé d'Affaires ad interim of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, and highly appreciated the mediation and reconciliation efforts of the countries that helped achieve this important breakthrough. The Vietnamese representative called on the relevant parties to strictly comply with the agreement, exercise maximum restraint and avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace process; and emphasized the role of the United Nations, especially the Security Council, in promoting compliance with international law, relevant United Nations resolutions as well as provisional measures and advisory opinions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The Charge d'Affaires of the Vietnamese Delegation stressed the importance of ensuring the timely and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza; affirmed support for the essential role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in coordinating and implementing relief in Gaza. Reiterating Vietnam's steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the two-state solution, Ambassador Nguyen Hoang Nguyen welcomed the adoption of the "New York Declaration" at the International Conference on a Peaceful Solution to the Palestine Problem co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia in late September 2025.
On this occasion, Vietnam affirmed its support and readiness to actively contribute to the international community's efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip on the basis of respecting national sovereignty and principles of international law as well as the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
