AI application in education: The inevitable trend of the future

The seminar aims to clarify the spirit of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in education and training development, and Resolution No. 281/NQ-CP on promulgating the Government's Action Program to implement Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Mr. Nguyen Khac Van, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper, said that Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW identified one of the strategic breakthrough tasks as "Comprehensive digital transformation, popularization and strong application of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) in education and training".

This is not only an orientational policy, but also a practical imperative, requiring the Vietnamese education sector to proactively adapt, innovate thinking, models and methods to catch up, progress together and be able to surpass the global development trend.

Referring to the potential of AI in education and training, Dr. Le Thi Mai Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Education, Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, said that AI is opening an era of comprehensive transformation in education and training, contributing to reshaping teaching and learning methods, management, governance and assessment of education and training quality on a global scale.

For Vietnam, applying AI, exploiting the potential, superior and outstanding features of AI in education and training is not only a technical requirement, but also a political and strategic task to build and develop high-quality human resources in the period of the 4.0 industrial revolution in the spirit of Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

In that context, Vietnamese education and training must be proactive, creative, and have a long-term vision in developing digital capacity and AI capacity for students, teachers, lecturers, and educational administrators.

Dr. Le Thi Mai Hoa presented a paper at the seminar.

To promote the potential of applying AI in education and training, Vietnam needs to adhere to the "human-centered" orientation, develop comprehensive capacity, foster creative thinking, and build an open, flexible, and humane education system.

“AI, if managed in the right direction, will not only be a technical tool but also become a strategic resource to successfully carry out the mission of making a breakthrough in education and training development,” said Dr. Le Thi Mai Hoa.

Sharing about breakthrough solutions applying AI in general education, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Lan, General Director of EMG Education Group, said that EMGEducation has deployed AI combined with Metaverse (virtual universe) for many years, opening up a digital school model where students not only acquire knowledge but also experience, interact and create in vivid virtual learning spaces, not limited by space. That is a strong shift from traditional learning to experiential learning and multidimensional exploration.

Meanwhile, Ms. Do Ngoc Chi, Principal of Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary School, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, said that digital transformation in education is not just about equipping equipment or software, but a journey of transforming awareness, culture and human capacity.

When every teacher knows how to master technology, using technology as a tool to inspire creativity. When every student learns, experiences and knows how to use technology safely and humanely. When every parent becomes a companion with their child in the digital world, then digital transformation truly enters the educational life, becoming the soft power of a happy and smart school.

Concluding the discussion, comrade Huynh Thanh Dat, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission, suggested that the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Science and Technology soon advise the Government to issue documents guiding the implementation of the AI Strategy in education, especially the AI Ethics Framework in schools and AI programs and documents for general education.

On the part of higher education institutions, it is necessary to proactively train, pioneer in innovation, and learn from successful models instead of passively depending on external solutions.

The business community needs to change its mindset, moving from the role of a passive "employer" to the position of a "co-creator" of human resources.
