| Waste heat power generation system of Dong Lam Cement |
Advanced technology
In order to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions and move towards a green, environmentally friendly cement production model, Dong Lam Cement Joint Stock Company (Dong Lam Cement) has completed the installation and officially put into operation a power plant utilizing waste heat from the clinker production line with a capacity of 5,000 tons/day. The project (DA) has a designed capacity of 8.7MW, with an average operating time of 7,800 hours/year, and is considered one of the typical DAs in the field of efficient energy use and sustainable development of the Vietnamese cement industry.
Dong Lam Cement's waste heat power generation system is designed according to the steam Rankine cycle, implemented by SCKE contractor - a joint venture between Kawasaki (Japan) and Conch Group (China). This is the leading boiler manufacturer in the region, applying Japanese-style quality management methods to ensure equipment quality, optimize operational efficiency and reliability of the entire system.
SCKE's steam power generation technology is designed with the typical WHR Conch Kawasaki thermodynamic system, using steam compensation technology (using secondary steam) with an instantaneous evaporator (flasher) as a modern solution to maximize the excess heat in the exhaust gas of the heat exchange tower and the clinker cooling process to heat water, generate steam and create superheated steam. This steam source is fed into the power turbine, pulling the generator to operate, creating a source of electricity to directly serve the cement production line of the factory.
The system is configured with two heat recovery boilers (PH at the heat exchanger and AQC at the clinker cooler), a turbine and a generator, optimized to take advantage of the existing technical infrastructure of Dong Lam Cement Plant.
Energy efficiency and environment
Up to now, the system has been put into operation, the actual power generation capacity exceeds the design, the clinker production line operates stably. The project helps save the equivalent of 30% of the annual power consumption that the factory has to buy from outside, contributing to significantly reducing production costs in the context of increasing electricity prices and the power supply in the Central region under great pressure in the dry season.
In addition to economic benefits, DA also brings outstanding environmental efficiency such as reducing CO₂ emissions, reducing dust released into the environment through chimneys, creating more job opportunities for local people; at the same time reducing power transmission losses and improving the reliability of power supply for the entire production system.
The project to generate electricity using waste heat of Dong Lam Cement not only has economic significance but also demonstrates the social and environmental responsibility of the enterprise. This is a direction that is completely consistent with the national policy on energy saving, emission reduction, efficient use of resources and sustainable development that the Vietnamese Government is encouraging.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Chi, Director of Production Engineering and Research and Development Department of Dong Lam Cement Joint Stock Company, shared: Proactively investing in and operating a power plant utilizing waste heat is a strategic step, demonstrating Dong Lam's strong commitment to technological innovation, emission reduction, energy saving and developing green and sustainable production. With this project, Dong Lam Cement continues to affirm its position as a pioneer in the Vietnamese cement industry in applying modern technology, towards circular economy and ESG (Environment - Society - Governance). The project not only contributes to increasing production and business efficiency but also plays an important role in environmental protection, ensuring energy security and sustainable development in the Central Highlands region.
Mr. Pham Phuoc Hien Hoa, General Director of Dong Lam Cement Joint Stock Company, affirmed that the operation of the waste heat power generation system of Dong Lam Cement is an important milestone in the green and sustainable development strategy of Dong Lam Cement. This system helps to utilize and avoid wasting excess heat in clinker production to generate electricity; self-supply 1/3 of the factory's electricity needs, reduce energy costs, and improve production and business efficiency. In addition, the system contributes to environmental protection, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and maximizes dust recovery during the production process, in line with the current trend of green technology and sustainable development.
In the coming time, Dong Lam Cement will continue to fulfill its commitment to green and sustainable development by continuing to invest in a solar power project within the factory premises with a capacity equivalent to 9MW. In order for the project to soon come into operation, Dong Lam Cement hopes to continue to receive further support from departments, branches, central and local authorities.
