On June 24, at its daily press briefing, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attacks on a major logistics center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The center is a large weapons depot used to accumulate, store and redistribute weapons, including missiles provided by the West to Ukraine.

Russian military officials did not provide any other details about the attack. However, images from Ukraine showed a large weapons cache hidden in a civilian facility used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city of Odessa being destroyed.

A series of explosions were heard on the outskirts of Odessa in the morning. Russian Kalibr missiles hit the local Krayan Heavy Crane Factory. Ukrainian media claimed that the Russian military had attacked a civilian facility, but the large fire and subsequent secondary explosions suggested that the targeted factory was used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to SF, the factory was used by the Ukrainian military to store missiles, including those supplied by NATO.

The destroyed factory was located in the port of Odessa, where NATO supplies weapons to Ukraine by sea. The factory was a very convenient facility that could have been turned into a strategically important logistics center for the Ukrainian army.

At the same time, sirens sounded in the southern Mykolaiv region. According to unconfirmed local reports, the target was a US-made HIMARS high-mobility artillery rocket system deployed in the area by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The HIMARS system may have been used by Ukrainian forces in the attack on the city of Sevastopol on June 23.

The Russian military announced that it would respond to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on a crowded beach in Sevastopol with ATACMS missiles. The resulting Russian retaliatory strikes destroyed NATO missile storage facilities and reportedly destroyed their launchers. According to SF, Russian attacks on Ukrainian military facilities are likely to continue.
