Asia

YONHAP. ​​South Korea will send tanks and artillery for the first time to participate in a joint military exercise in Qatar next month.

KYODO. Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has won a runoff vote to elect the leader of the Constitutional Democratic Party - the country's largest opposition party.

AL JAZEERA. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that his country will “change the military balance on its northern border”.

SANA. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has issued a decree forming a new government under Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali.

ISNA. The Iranian military is building a 10km-long wall along its border with northeastern Afghanistan to prevent illegal immigration.

REUTERS. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran is ready to start a new round of nuclear talks on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, provided "other parties are also willing".

THE EXPRESS TRIBUNE. Pakistan has chosen Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik as the new Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence Agency.

ANTARA NEWS. An Indonesian Health Ministry official has recommended increasing tobacco taxes to curb consumption of the product.

AFP. French Prime Minister Michel Barnier called for a "national effort" to reduce the public sector deficit and rejected a policy of widespread tax increases.

NEWS.AZ. NATO forces participate in the final stage of the international exercise Fire Thunder 2024 taking place in Lithuania.

BBC. Governments across Latin America, from Ecuador to Brazil, have taken steps to combat widespread wildfires caused by prolonged drought.
