DNVN - Fortinet has just officially introduced FortiDLP, a next-generation data loss prevention solution that also focuses on internal risk management.
Based on Next DLP’s advanced technology and integration into the Fortinet Security Fabric, this new solution will enhance the strength and comprehensiveness of Fortinet’s data protection portfolio. FortiDLP enables flexible and efficient management of data security while providing large enterprises with visibility into insider threats at scale.
“In an age where data protection is paramount, FortiDLP offers a next-generation solution that combines advanced AI detection capabilities with insider risk management to secure sensitive information,” said John Maddison, chief marketing officer at Fortinet.
By leveraging AI-powered data protection, powered by generative AI, security teams can anticipate risks, simplify incident response, and mitigate threats faster than traditional DLP solutions. FortiDLP provides the ability to protect your data from both internal and external threats, starting with visibility and proactive prevention from day one."
Businesses are facing a huge risk of data loss.
In a recent market report, Gartner predicted: “By 2027, 70% of CISOs in large enterprises will adopt a unified approach to address both insider risk and data breaches.” However, CISOs and security teams continue to face traditional DLP challenges, such as managing data warehouses and distributed data in an increasingly hybrid workforce, navigating cumbersome and rigid policies for data classification, slow performance of legacy tools, and the increasing risk of malicious insiders gaining access to sensitive data.
Fortinet’s answer to the challenges of traditional DLP is FortiDLP, a cloud-based, AI-powered endpoint data protection solution. FortiDLP enables customers to address all their data protection needs with a single solution.
With the recent acquisition of Next DLP, Fortinet immediately adds this powerful data protection solution to the Fortinet Security Fabric, providing security teams with more effective tools to prevent data leakage and loss, detect behavioral threats, train employees to comply with security policies, and make informed decisions about attack risks. The solution also addresses the issue of employees using unapproved SaaS applications, and protects against data leakage when employees use Shadow AI models (unauthorized GenAI tools).
Some of the key features that set FortiDLP apart are: Protecting data from Shadow AI. FortiDLP enables employees to securely use publicly available GenAI tools, such as OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and others. Administrators can set policies to alert employees to appropriate data handling practices while allowing them to continue using these tools. The result must be a balance between enabling greater productivity while protecting the organization from sharing sensitive data when using these tools.
Data visibility and protection from the start: FortiDLP provides automated data visibility and protection from the start with pre-built policies and machine learning built right into the endpoint to create a baseline of rules, with contextual and content-driven inspection capabilities that work even when endpoints are offline.
Insider Risk Protection: FortiDLP can identify actions, behaviors, and other indicators and apply policy-based actions to identify and prevent insiders from disclosing sensitive data outside the organization. Security teams can also monitor individual user risk with this solution by identifying, analyzing, and understanding employee activity when sensitive data is accessed and/or when policies are violated.
Protecting data against SaaS applications: FortiDLP provides comprehensive visibility into user interactions with data in the cloud and maintains protection as data moves out of the cloud. It builds a comprehensive, risk-assessed inventory of SaaS applications used across the organization, with insights into credentials and data in and out. It also strengthens defenses against potential data breaches due to unauthorized application use that expose business data.
Origin-based data protection: FortiDLP provides instant visibility into data exposure risk with “Secure Data Flow,” complementing traditional approaches based on content and sensitivity classification with origin-based data identification, manipulation detection, and data egress control. Security teams can monitor and prevent data transfer from unmanaged endpoints and mobile devices to USB drives, printers, and SaaS applications such as Slack, Office 365, and Google Workspace.
At the same time, disseminate risk awareness to users: Administrators can configure policies and actions by disseminating messages that educate users about the importance of protecting sensitive data, while promoting responsibility in all employee behaviors.
The AI-powered FortiDLP Assistant enhances incident analysis by using the FortiAI virtual assistant to summarize and contextualize observed high-risk activity data against the MITRE Engenuity TTP Insider Threat Knowledge Base, providing a useful source of information for security professionals and staff.
FortiDLP is powered by Next DLP's next-generation cloud-native SaaS data protection platform, which has been recognized as a Representative Vendor in the Gartner 2023 Market Report for Data Loss Prevention and the Gartner 2023 Market Report for Insider Risk Management Solutions.
