Although the rhythm may be clumsy and the songs sometimes off-beat, it is this sincerity and passion that revives the simple spirit of the countryside, preserving and passing on folk heritage as a bond connecting the community.
Dien Ban Tay commune was established by merging three communes: Dien Phuoc, Dien Hong, and Dien Tho. Inheriting and continuing the traditional cultural heritage of each former region, three folk music and singing clubs, named Dien Phuoc, Dien Tho, and Dien Hong, have now been formed within the commune, corresponding to the names of the three former communes.
Under the dedicated guidance of the group leaders, each rhythmic beat resonated harmoniously, each simple melody rising from the rustic voices, sometimes hesitant, sometimes full of emotion. There were moments of off-beats and missed rhythms, but smiles, passionate glances, and mutual encouragement erased any distance. Such practice sessions not only helped preserve folk songs and traditional theater but also strengthened community bonds, enriched spiritual life, and allowed the soul of Dien Ban Tay to quietly resonate through each song.
According to Mr. Le Trung Kien, head of the Dien Tho Folk Song and Bài Chòi Club, the club's members come from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Each person has their own way of life, busy with work during the day, and in the evenings they make time to meet, practice, and nurture their shared passion for folk songs and Bài Chòi.
Mr. Tran Khanh, Deputy Head of the Dien Hong Folk Song and Bài Chòi Club, expressed his pride when talking about the local mass cultural movement.
Mr. Khanh shared: "There are few rural areas where the love for folk songs and traditional theater is as widespread and enduring as in Dien Ban Tay. From the elderly to the young, from farmers attached to their fields to officials and small traders, everyone shares the same passion, singing and playing the rhythm together to enrich their spiritual lives after hours of hard work."
Ms. Truong Thi Thu Ha's main job is catering for weddings, keeping her busy every day to make a living. However, whenever she participates in club activities and gatherings, this down-to-earth woman enthusiastically sings familiar folk songs and traditional Vietnamese opera with all her passion. Her simple, rustic voice, imbued with the essence of the countryside, blends with the rhythmic beat, creating a warm and heartfelt melody, as if recounting the everyday stories of the villagers.
As the new spring approaches, the atmosphere in the clubs' training sessions becomes increasingly vibrant and urgent. Members take advantage of every free moment to practice together, perfecting each melody and rhythm, in preparation for performances at the 2026 spring fair or warm and heartfelt village cultural nights.
