Vietnam tourism industry optimistic about growth

The US decision to postpone the imposition of tariffs has helped Vietnam’s tourism industry expect growth. The 10% tariff creates an opportunity for negotiation and boosts consumption. Businesses can flexibly adjust their strategies for development.

Businesses and travel agencies assessed the situation brighter when US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day postponement of reciprocal tariffs on countries.

Tourism businesses expect spending to remain unchanged

On April 10, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online, Ms. Huynh Phan Phuong Hoang - Deputy General Director of Vietravel , said that the US's reciprocal tax on other countries has had an indirect impact on Vietnam's tourism industry, affecting the purchasing power and consumer psychology of tourists.

"Tourism businesses can expect that tourism spending will not change significantly for both domestic and international visitors to Vietnam," said Ms. Hoang, adding that businesses can take advantage of this time to adjust business strategies and restructure prices.

If orders and production remain strong, profits can be used to offset the impact of this tax.

In addition, according to Ms. Hoang, tourism spending depends on many factors such as income, consumer psychology and the general business environment.

If the economy remains stable and businesses maintain effective production and business operations, the tax rate will not have a major impact.

"Support mechanisms from related industries such as transportation, entertainment, and hotels, along with flexibility in adjusting marketing strategies, can help the tourism industry maintain its appeal and stabilize spending levels," Ms. Hoang hopes.

Similarly, Mr. Tu Quy Thanh, director of Lien Bang Tourism Company, acknowledged that postponing the imposition of reciprocal taxes also helps customers relieve stress in production and business activities, and tours are no longer canceled...

Diversify customer sources, innovate products and services

Ms. Hoang acknowledged that "temporary" tax imposition does not mean "complete abolition", so this is also the time for businesses and travel agencies to adjust their business strategies as well as prepare to adapt to situations.

For example, by timely adjusting strategies in diversifying visitor sources and innovating service products, Vietnam's tourism industry is able to minimize negative impacts and turn challenges into development opportunities.

Similarly, Mr. Truong Duy Thanh, General Director of Unisky Tourism Company, also said that goods with reduced tax pressure do not affect income, and plans for tourism to Vietnam are expected, so businesses need to renew products to attract and ensure customer structure.

6 million international visitors to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2025

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the total number of international visitors in the first 3 months of 2025 reached over 6 million, an increase of 29.6% over the same period in 2024, and an increase of 134% over the same period in 2019. This is the highest number of international visitors in a quarter ever, with a total revenue of VND 242,000 billion.

China and South Korea continue to be the largest visitor markets, followed by Taiwan, the US, Japan, Cambodia, Australia, Malaysia, India and Russia.

International arrivals from European markets continued to grow by double digits. Key markets such as the UK increased by 23.5%, France increased by 28.3%, Germany increased by 23.3%, and the Russian market in particular increased sharply by 110.5%.
