According to the report of the General Statistics Office ( Ministry of Finance ), agricultural production in October focused on harvesting winter-spring rice and autumn-winter rice and planting winter crops in the North. Poultry farming developed stably, pig farming is gradually recovering, and the price of animal feed decreased, helping to ensure profits for businesses and farming households. Aquaculture production continued to develop positively, especially pangasius and brackish water shrimp farming, meeting well the domestic consumption demand and raw materials for export processing in the last months of the year.

Specifically, in the 2025 crop, the whole country planted 1.52 million hectares of rice, a slight decrease compared to the previous year. As of October 20, the whole country had harvested 865.5 thousand hectares, reaching nearly 92% over the same period, of which the North harvested 598 thousand hectares. Harvesting progress in the North was slower due to late crop schedules and storms causing flooding. Particularly, the autumn-winter rice crop in the Mekong Delta and Tay Ninh was planted on 699.2 thousand hectares, equal to 97.6% of the same period, with many rice fields growing well. Some localities such as Vinh Long and An Giang have harvested about 190.3 thousand hectares early, accounting for more than 27% of the planted area.
In addition, poultry farming continued to develop steadily, and diseases were controlled. Pig farming gradually recovered after the African swine fever epidemic, while the decrease in animal feed prices helped people and businesses make profits. On the contrary, buffalo and cow herds in many localities decreased due to high costs and narrowed grazing areas, but there were still bright spots in provinces such as Tuyen Quang and Nghe An thanks to support policies and favorable credit sources.
Regarding forestry production, in October, the area of newly planted forests reached 31.8 thousand hectares, down 2.9% over the same period last year due to weather impacts. However, in the first 10 months of 2025, newly planted forests reached 253.1 thousand hectares, up 8.8%, and exploited timber output reached 20.47 million m³, up 7.8%. The area of damaged forests decreased by 30.9%, of which the area of burned forests decreased by more than half, showing that forest management and fire prevention work continues to be highly effective.
In October, aquatic product output was estimated at 895,300 tons, up 2.8% over the same period last year. Of which, aquaculture reached 597,300 tons (up 5.2%), exploitation reached 298,000 tons (down 1.7%) due to unfavorable weather. Notably, pangasius output reached 188,500 tons, up 4.3%; shrimp reached 152,900 tons, up 6%, reflecting the trend of expanding super-intensive farming models, applying high technology. In the first 10 months of 2025, the country's aquatic product output reached 8.16 million tons, up 3.1% over the same period last year; of which fish increased by 2.8%, shrimp increased by 5.7%.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director of the General Statistics Office, assessed that despite facing natural disasters and unusual weather, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector still showed good resilience. The recovery of livestock, the increase in forest plantation area and fishery output were outstanding bright spots. These results not only ensured food supply for the country but also contributed significantly to export growth in the final months of the year.
