This is the school's "Match Day" event for new doctors to register for the residency program - the most prestigious training program in the Vietnamese medical education system, which this year marks its 50th anniversary.
The new doctors registered for their specialties after passing the most difficult exam in the medical industry, which took place last August on the largest scale ever with more than 900 candidates participating.
According to the regulations, the new residents will step up to the microphone, call out their name and number according to their exam scores and choose a major displayed on the screen on stage. The candidate with the highest score will be selected first.
Each major that has reached its quota will be closed. Candidates at the bottom of the list will have to choose other majors that still have quota.
The selection of specialties in this year's residency program shows the attraction of obstetrics and gynecology as it is the most chosen by new doctors. Of the 20 new residents with the highest scores, 7 doctors chose obstetrics and gynecology and 4 doctors chose plastic surgery.
The top scorer in the residency exam of Hanoi Medical University this year is Vu Ngoc Duy with 25.09/30 points, the first person to be called in the major registration session also chose Obstetrics and Gynecology.
"Vu Ngoc Duy, number 1, Obstetrics and Gynecology major, Hanoi Medical University", the whole hall applauded Duy's major selection. Duy's major selection is also one of the most popular parts on social networks in recent days.
Obstetrics and Gynecology and Plastic Surgery majors, from the 33rd round of candidates, most of the quotas have been selected.
Becoming the first choice of many new doctors with the highest scores in the residency exam, many people began to take interest in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

According to Decree 238/2025/ND-CP regulating tuition policy, exemption, reduction, tuition support, study cost support and service prices in the field of education and training, there are some resident medical specialties that are exempt from tuition fees.
According to the Decree, one of the 14 subjects exempted from tuition fees is: Postgraduate students with master's, doctoral, level I specialist, level II specialist, resident doctors specializing in psychiatry, pathology, forensic medicine, forensic psychiatry, infectious diseases and emergency resuscitation at public educational institutions in the health sector.
Thus, according to this Decree, the Obstetrics and Gynecology major in the residency program is not included in the tuition-free group.
In the residency program, only specialties such as psychiatry, pathology, forensic medicine, forensic psychiatry, infectious diseases and emergency resuscitation are tuition-free at public schools in the health sector.
In addition, the above majors in the residency program are also included in the group that receives a 50% tuition reduction at private educational institutions in the health sector.
