In Dong Nai, many people have donated blood many times, even considering blood donation a regular activity, each time giving is a time receiving.
Helping others is also helping yourself
Cho Ray Hospital recently held the 2025 Southeast Rare Blood Group Club Meeting. At the conference, 8 individuals from Dong Nai province were commended for their active participation in blood donation activities to save lives. Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Nguyet (54 years old, residing in Trang Dai ward, Bien Hoa city) is one of them.
Ms. Nguyet shared that she knew she had the rare blood type O Rh (-) after giving birth to her second daughter in 2011. After consulting with a doctor and searching for related information, Ms. Nguyet understood the importance of the rare blood type, so in 2012, she registered to join the Southeast Rare Blood Type Club. Since then, Ms. Nguyet has donated blood 25 times, each time donating 350ml of blood.
Dong Nai Province's Live Blood Bank Club currently has about 120 people with rare blood types.
“At any time, day or night, if there is information that someone needs blood, I am ready to go. If at that time I am not eligible to donate blood, I will connect with other members of the club to participate in donating blood. I remember the most the time when 7 members of the club went to the Ho Chi Minh City Heart Institute to donate blood to help a male patient with heart disease who needed rare blood. Or another time, a patient in Khanh Hoa province needed blood, we also urgently flew there to donate blood,” Ms. Nguyet recalled.
Ms. Nguyet confided that for people with normal blood types, timely blood transfusion is very important. For people with rare blood types, timely blood transfusion is even more important, because the percentage of people with rare blood types in the community is very small. Therefore, when you are still healthy, try to help whoever you can, because helping others is also helping yourself. Ms. Nguyet not only actively participates in blood donation, but also encourages her family members and the community to participate in blood donation. Thereby, she has contributed to spreading this meaningful action.
Every drop of blood given, a life remains
At the Ceremony to Honor Outstanding National Voluntary Blood Donors in 2025 recently held in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan emphasized that blood donation is not only a noble humanitarian act, but also the most vivid expression of love between people and fellow countrymen. Each unit of blood is a ray of hope, a miracle that helps prolong the lives of countless patients, a bridge connecting the community with a compassionate heart.
That is why there are people who have donated blood 60, 80, even more than 100 times to save lives. People everywhere, from urban areas to plains, remote areas...; working in many different professions such as doctors, teachers, farmers, workers... all actively participate in donating blood. They are silent heroes, choosing to save lives through specific actions, through their own drops of blood.
Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society Do Thi Phuoc Thien said that over the years, Dong Nai has always been among the top localities in the country in terms of the number of donated blood units. The blood donated by volunteers will then be screened and transferred to hospitals to serve emergency, medical examination and treatment. In particular, during peak periods such as holidays, Tet, and summer, the Provincial Red Cross Society regularly coordinates with the Blood Transfusion Center (Cho Ray Hospital) to organize blood donation receptions at units in the province. Thereby, helping hospitals solve the problem of blood shortage, patients have the opportunity to receive timely emergency and treatment.
