For many years, artist Xuan Huong has been living a quiet life, away from the spotlight of showbiz. At the age of 68, the artist is living alone in her parents' old house in Ho Chi Minh City.
Recently, appearing on the show Knock on the Door , artist Xuan Huong opened up about living alone in her old age.
Artist Xuan Huong shared that when she divorced her ex-husband - MC Thanh Bach in 2006, she lived with her son Thanh Tu. At that time, the female artist's income fluctuated around 2 million VND per month, but she still tried to raise and love her child within her means.
However, later, Thanh Tu was taken care of by MC Thanh Bach for her university studies and decided to follow her father. According to her, since 2017, her son has not been in contact with the female artist.
Artist Xuan Huong confided: "My child is like a treasure to me. All parents love their children like that. But for me, when I gave birth, I looked at my child on the delivery table and I burst into tears. Because I never expected to have a child, I thought that perhaps my life would change from now on. I raised my child in my own way since he was young and always loved him with all my heart.
When we divorced, my child agreed to live with me, which was my reward during that period. The court asked me if I wanted child support, and I said no, it was up to him. Even though at that time I didn't know how I was going to support him.
That was in 2006, I lived on an income of around 2 million VND per month. I raised my child with all my ability. After that, he took care of her going to university and finally she went to that side until now."
Artist Xuan Huong admits that she has suffered all her life with men, first her husband and then her son. According to her, her son did not visit or call to ask about his mother when she was sick.
"Once I was going to have heart surgery, a doctor who was a close friend of mine knew my son's phone number so he called, and unexpectedly someone claiming to be his lover answered the phone without asking me a single question. Although we had never met, I did not recognize that person as my daughter-in-law, but at least there should be some human affection first.
My son didn't ask me if I was alive or dead. Whatever I told him 1000 times is the same."
Also at the program, Xuan Huong recounted the time when she was still married to MC Thanh Bach. She said that during the 20 years of living together, it was no different from "hell". The female artist was heartbroken when she took medicine for 3 years without being cured because it was a mental illness, she was tortured by those closest to her to the point of "exhaustion" of strength and spirit.
"For the 20 years I've lived, I've had a mental illness. I don't remember when I started having mental illness, but it must have been a long time ago. I felt like the illness in my brain was terrible. It was burning inside my skull. Since then, my temperament has been very difficult to approach. My eyes always looked like they hated someone. I took medicine for 3 years but it didn't go away, it didn't improve because it was a mental illness.
When I saw that my mental illness was too severe, I begged the person I called "husband": "Please tell your family to be less cruel to me so that I can live and raise my child. But one day if I can't control myself, the disease will flare up and I might go crazy and talk nonsense. People with mental illness will talk about what they have experienced, because it is deeply imprinted in their minds, so there is no other way. At that time, your whole family will be disgraced.
But he sat there with a frozen face, so I decided to get a divorce. Thanks to the divorce, I was cured even though I didn't take any medicine," she said.
Xuan Huong confided that her life was sad and had more tears than joy. Although she had been divorced for 17 years, the haunting memories of her broken marriage had not yet subsided. However, she now felt that her life was happier and more peaceful than before.
She said: "Life is like that, for me it's still normal. I feel happy after divorce. There are many people who are more depressed when they have to live alone, but I'm happy. I am free, I love myself more. I'm afraid of being tied down, but I'm most afraid of being alone with my own loved ones. It's terrible!"
The artist herself admits that her life is worth living, and it is clear who is sincere to her or not. She said she has prepared some money to deposit with close friends to prepare for buying a coffin for herself in case something unfortunate happens.
According to her, funerals are just the feelings of the living for the deceased, and it is also a custom from the past to the present that requires it. She does not want to bother others.
"For me, there is no need to bother others. I consider myself to have no husband or children. After cremation, I do not bring my body to the temple to worship, because there is no one to worship. I just need to bring the ashes to a clean, fragrant, and neat place," she confided.
Artist Xuan Huong (born in 1955) is a name that is no longer strange to the Vietnamese public. She is the daughter of artist Bich Lam, with both talent and beauty.
