Meals of love
For the past two days, since 4am, the kitchen at 21 Le Hong Phong Street, Nam Dong Ha Ward has always been on fire. The sounds of pots and pans, the exchanges of many volunteers, and the aroma of hot food have made the atmosphere even warmer in the cold rain. According to the homeowner, Mrs. Bui Thi Kim Phuong, sympathizing with the difficulties of people in areas isolated by floods, the family decided to spend their own money, along with friends and neighbors, to organize cooking thousands of meals to support the people.
Ms. Phuong shared: “Through TV and social networks, I saw that people in flooded areas in Nam Hai Lang and Dien Sanh communes and Hue City were deeply flooded, many places were isolated for nearly a week, so I thought I had to do something to support. Initially, my family only planned to cook a few hundred meals, but with the help of many people, in the past 2 days, we have cooked and transported more than 3,300 meals with milk and filtered water to the area of Nam Hai Lang commune, Hue Central Hospital, and student dormitories in Hue City to give to people for free.”

Thinking the same, in recent days, the Quang Tri Piggy Bank volunteer club, chaired by Mr. Le Quang Hoang, has become the focal point connecting dozens of volunteer groups and philanthropists inside and outside the province to support people in flooded areas in Nam Hai Lang and Dien Sanh communes. Through images shared on social networks, Mr. Hoang has called for and coordinated with many groups to transport thousands of meals, water, instant noodles, and bread to the villages of Hoi Dien, Cau Nhi, An Tho, My Chanh, Hung Nhon, etc. to give to people who are isolated due to rising flood waters.
“In the past few days, we have called for and delivered more than 4,000 meals along with hundreds of boxes of filtered water and dry food to flooded areas. In the area of Nam Hai Lang commune, which has been flooded for a week, many households have no clean water, and food reserves are almost depleted. People's lives depend on support from outside, so we try to call for and deliver food and necessities to the flood-avoidance section that has not been flooded yet, then work with local authorities to transport them by boat to the people,” said Mr. Le Quang Hoang.
Share to overcome the flood together
Present at Nam Hai Lang commune at noon on October 30, 2025, the reporter recorded that the flood water still showed no signs of receding. Heavy rain combined with water pouring from upstream caused many villages in the estuary such as: An Tho, Hoi Dien, My Chanh, Hung Nhon... to be flooded 1-1.5m deep. Village roads turned into small rivers, people had to use boats and corrugated iron boats to travel.
To be able to bring rice and essential supplies to this area, volunteer groups have to transport goods to the flood-avoidance area located about 10km away from the villages in the area, then put them on boats to bring to the people. For the past 4 days, Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, residing in An Tho village, along with the youth and the village management board, regardless of the danger, crossed the floodwaters to continuously bring rice support from benefactors to each isolated household.
“The village has 35 households that are flooded more than 1.5 meters deep, and have been isolated for almost a week now. In the first few days, people were proactive because they had food reserves, but now they are almost gone. When we heard that there were benefactors supporting us with meals, we took turns driving boats to deliver meals to each house. The meals contain the hearts of Quang Tri people to each other in times of trouble,” said Mr. Cuong.
Not only An Tho, in Hoi Dien village, there are currently about 51 households that are also flooded nearly 1 meter deep. Except for those who are working far away, the whole village currently has about 120 people isolated by flood water. Among them, many people are still staying at relatives' or neighbors' houses. To receive lunch boxes from benefactors, Mr. Nguyen Van Chuyen also volunteered to transport 120 meals supported by the Quang Tri Piglet Charity Club to the villagers by his corrugated iron boat.

“My house was flooded about 1 meter deep, and four members of my family had to move to a relative’s house in a higher place to stay temporarily. The water rose quickly, all the furniture was damaged, there was no clean water, and the electricity was out for several days. Thanks to the volunteer groups sending rice and water, it was a bit better,” said Mr. Chuyen emotionally.
Following the boats bringing rice to An Tho village, Nam Hai Lang commune, the reporter choked up at the difficulties of the people here. For nearly a week now, the level 4 house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lien (78 years old) now only has the roof sticking out in the middle of the sea of water. Mrs. Lien's family has 3 people living together, all 3 are old and sick, so when the floodwaters surrounded the family, they completely depended on the support of neighbors.
“The family is full of elderly people, so when the water flooded, we had to ask the neighbors to help us move our belongings. For many days now, we have been living mainly on meals, bottles of water, and instant noodles provided by volunteer groups. Now we just hope the rain stops and the water recedes soon so we can return to normal life,” Ms. Lien confided.
Chairman of Nam Hai Lang Commune People's Committee Tran Huu Bac informed that up to now, the whole commune has 434 households with 1,302 people flooded, many places the water is more than 1 meter deep. Some schools have to let students stay home. We are coordinating with rescue forces, unions, organizations, and kind individuals to support necessities to the people. However, due to the complicated weather, continuous rain and wind, the locality has directed functional forces to be on duty at key locations, supporting volunteer groups to bring rice and daily necessities to isolated people.
Amidst the “silver sea” of flood season, boats and ships loaded with rice, drinking water and necessities are still gliding tirelessly in the rain, bringing love and hope to people in the flood-prone areas. Everyone is trying to overcome the difficult period with love and sharing.
