On the evening of August 5, the news that Jorge Costa passed away at the age of 53 due to sudden death right on the football field at Porto's training center shocked the football world .

At the press conference before Fenerbahce's Champions League qualifying match, coach Mourinho could not hold back his tears as he paid tribute to the legendary captain.

Costa was the leader and key player in Mourinho's Porto team that made history with the 2004 Champions League title. In a press conference, Mourinho tearfully shared: "A part of my history is gone."

Asked if he once considered Costa not just a captain but a real leader in the dressing room, Mourinho added: "He is a perfect captain. A real leader."

“But forget about football, focus on him, on his children,” he added.

Jorge Costa won 50 caps for Portugal. He won 24 trophies during his time at Porto, including the UEFA Cup and eight Primeira Liga titles.

He returned to Porto last year as director of football after a coaching career spanning 16 different clubs. Costa is best remembered as Mourinho's captain when Porto unexpectedly won the Champions League in 2004. A year earlier, he had also lifted the UEFA Cup.

He also won the Intercontinental Cup, five Portuguese Cups and eight Super Cups during his time at Porto.
