(HNMO) - Last month, the mid-size crossover segment (C-class) - which has long been the best-selling car group in Vietnam - recorded a decrease in overall sales but witnessed many interesting developments.

The two best-selling urban "high-chassis" car models in Vietnam at the moment.

In the domestic market, mid-size crossovers are popular for their good performance, fuel economy, and reasonable price compared to the general consumer market. In recent years, manufacturers have tended to modernize the design of mid-size crossovers, making this group of cars significantly more attractive than sedans of the same platform and size.

In April 2023, the Mazda CX-5 continued to be the best-selling model in the crossover segment. According to published data, 3,266 CX-5s were delivered to customers during this period. This achievement does not come entirely from the new version or any superiority, but is considered the result of a long period of strong incentives and promotions.

In fact, last month, most car models with big incentives recorded outstanding sales growth. For example, the Hyundai Stargazer MPV - although considered "out of sync" with domestic tastes, actually sold better than big names in the same house such as Santa Fe, Tucson or Elantra. Honda City also unexpectedly rose to the top of the B-class sedan segment in a similar way.

The race to lower "rolling prices" is creating rare fluctuations in the domestic auto market.

Meanwhile, Ford Territory ranked second with 2,436 units. This result continues to impress experts, as this is one of the newest models to enter this segment in the Vietnamese market. The second lowest selling price in the segment, combined with brand strength and configuration suitable for crossover usage needs in Vietnam, has brought the attraction to Territory, increasing the opportunity to compete with Hyundai Tucson or Honda CR-V.

Accumulating the first 4 months of the year, Mazda CX-5 and Ford Territory are still the two names leading in sales, reaching 3,266 and 2,436 vehicles respectively.

Standing in the following positions are still familiar models such as Hyundai Santa Fe (3rd) with 364 units and Hyundai Tucson (4th) with 259 units. Notably, while all products in the ranking decreased in sales, Honda CR-V (5th) was the only model in the crossover segment that grew in April, although the increase was only 10 units - reaching 237 units. However, this also helped the car increase one place on the sales ranking of the segment.

After many years of "making waves", Hyundai Santa Fe is starting to show signs of weakness in the face of a wave of new products.

In the “underdog” group, the leader is KIA Sportage. The model from the same manufacturer THACO as CX-5 lost the 5th position of last month with only 200 units sold (down nearly 30% compared to March). Next are CX-8 (180 units), KIA Sorento (150 units), Mitsubishi Outlander (160 units).

As for themselves, the remaining names on the market such as Subaru Forester, MG HS, Volkswagen Tiguan... although not publishing figures, the sales of these car lines are usually only a few dozen cars per month.
