In a place where more than 94% of the population are ethnic minorities, life is still difficult, awareness of health care is limited, Dr. Nong is not only a doctor, but also a friend and relative of the people here.
From Song Mooc, Phai Lau, Khe Tien to Phat Chi villages, his footprints have been imprinted all over the mountainsides, streams, and through simple roofs, bringing with them the devotion and pure medical ethics of a doctor in a white coat. For him, taking care of the health of his fellow countrymen is both a responsibility and a happiness. Despite the rain, mountain winds, and long and difficult journeys, Doctor Nong has never been afraid of difficulties, because behind each trip is the faith and healthy smiles of the people in the border areas...

After graduating from Quang Ninh Medical College, at the age of 23, Dr. Vi Van Nong chose to return to his hometown Dong Van (now Hoanh Mo commune) to work. For many years, he has been tirelessly wearing a white blouse, crossing streams and forests, and being present in the most remote villages to take care of the health of people in the border areas.

Doctor Vi Van Nong examines people's health at Dong Van Health Station, Hoanh Mo Commune.

Dong Van Health Station has 6 staff members. The area is large and the population is scattered, so the doctors and nurses always stay close to the villages, go to every alley, knock on every door, persistently propagate and guide people to take care of their health.

Doctor Vi Van Nong and the midwife went to Song Mooc A village to guide and care for newborn babies at home for ethnic people.

In more than 30 years of working in the profession, Dr. Vi Van Nong cannot remember how many patients he has saved or how many times he has helped women give birth successfully. "In the past, people invited shamans to "diagnose" illnesses, but now whenever they are sick, they all go to the medical station. That is what makes me feel the warmest and happiest," Dr. Vi Van Nong confided.

Doctor Vi Van Nong examines and treats the elderly at home.

Mrs. Phun Nhi Mui, Song Mooc A village, Hoanh Mo commune, emotionally shared: "Since Dr. Nong started taking care of our health, we have been very reassured. Everyone affectionately calls him the village doctor."

Doctor Vi Van Nong propagates and mobilizes parents and children in mountainous areas to raise awareness of drowning prevention.

Imbued with Uncle Ho's teaching "A good doctor is like a mother", Doctor Vi Van Nong and his colleagues crossed streams and forests to each village to examine, promote and take care of the health of people in the highlands.

For people in the highlands, changing outdated habits such as giving birth at home or being subjective about the epidemic is not easy. But "slow and steady wins the race", Dr. Vi Van Nong and his colleagues still persistently go to every alley, knock on every door, persistently campaigning for people to know how to take care of themselves and maintain their health better.
