Foreigners who want to teach English in Vietnam must study 11 subjects.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the issuance of this training program aims to contribute to ensuring the quality of English teaching at foreign language centers and foreign language-IT centers.

Accordingly, native speakers (of English) with a college degree or higher; foreigners with a college degree or higher in English; foreigners with a college degree or higher and a foreign language proficiency certificate of level 5 or higher according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam or equivalent, if they want to teach English at centers, must participate in this training program to be granted a certificate.

Foreign teachers teach English at a foreign language center

The training program includes 11 topics. Of which, there are 10 topics on knowledge, methods and skills of teaching English such as an overview of culture, context of teaching and learning English in Vietnam; theory and methods of teaching and learning English; methods of teaching English skills; lesson plans; classroom management; application and exploitation of information technology; development of learning materials in teaching English; testing and evaluation; methods of teaching English to Vietnamese children... Besides, there is an internship topic.

After completing the training program, students need to meet the requirements for English teaching capacity at foreign language centers, such as knowing how to apply knowledge, methods and main approaches in teaching English; developing skills in developing lesson plans, assessment skills; using technology, learning materials and English teaching methods appropriate to the learners in order to develop the capacity and qualities of learners at foreign language centers.

In addition, it is necessary to have the ability to adapt flexibly, respect Vietnamese customs and cultural traditions and comply with the provisions of Vietnamese law.

When students are confirmed to have completed the program (attended at least 80% of class time; completed learning tasks, tests, assessments, and achieved a score of 5.0 or higher), they will be awarded a certificate.

According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, pedagogical universities with faculties for training and fostering English teachers; training and fostering institutions with faculties for training and fostering English teachers; educational institutions licensed to train and foster English teachers will carry out this training task.
