60-year-old woman gives birth to 3.1 kg baby

On the morning of June 15, Mr. Vu Van Tam, Director of Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, said that this is the oldest woman to give birth at Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital to date. Previously, the hospital had also had 2 cases of giving birth at the age of 54 and 51.

According to the pregnant woman's family, Mrs. M. and her husband had two children (one girl, one boy), but the eldest daughter is living abroad, and the son unfortunately died in an accident at the age of 20.

After the incident of losing their son, Mrs. M. and her husband felt lonely and wished to have another child to "bring joy to the family", but due to their old age, the ability to conceive naturally was difficult.

After much deliberation, Ms. M. and her husband asked their daughter and family members for their opinions and received everyone's support for having a child using in vitro fertilization.

In 2022, when she was 59 and her husband was 62, Ms. M. and her husband went to the Reproductive Support Center, Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital to undergo in vitro fertilization. Doctors assessed that conceiving at this age would pose many risks to both mother and child. However, in the second embryo transfer, fortunately she became pregnant and the pregnancy developed smoothly.

On June 1, Mrs. M. showed signs of labor, so the director of Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, Vu Van Tam, performed a cesarean section. The baby girl, the 60-year-old mother, was born healthy, weighing 3.1 kg.
