Simple, friendly but full of courage and creativity - that is the first impression when mentioning Ms. Nguyen Hong Phuong, Principal of Duong Minh Chau Secondary School (Tay Ninh province). With more than twenty years of dedication to the career of "growing people", she is always loved by colleagues and students for her sense of responsibility and desire for constant innovation.

Continuous research and innovation

As a former student of Duong Minh Chau Secondary School, in 1999, when working here, Ms. Hong Phuong always kept in mind to follow in the footsteps of her teachers and seniors to continue the career of educating people.

With her enthusiasm, high sense of responsibility, and many initiatives in teaching, in 2015, Ms. Hong Phuong was trusted to be Vice Principal and held the role of Principal of the school in October 2024. In each role and position, she always focuses on students, wholeheartedly helping them improve themselves in both knowledge, ethics and lifestyle.

During the management and teaching process, Ms. Phuong has proposed many initiatives and solutions that positively contribute to teaching and learning at school.

Typical topics that are highly appreciated include: The initiative "Promoting the socialization of education propaganda in the movement to build friendly schools and active students" - recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training as one of the 30 best initiatives nationwide; the topic "Research on building a model of school behavior culture in Tay Ninh province" recognized as a provincial-level science and technology topic; the initiative "Developing students' capacity through STEAM-oriented educational activities",... are all highly appreciated and applied in teaching practice. In particular, she is always a pioneer in innovating teaching methods suitable to each student's capacity, helping them to be more confident, reduce pressure and be interested in learning.

With her initiative of "Tutoring students who have not achieved in regular school hours", the school's teaching staff proactively adjusted teaching methods and built lessons suitable for each group of students.

Ms. Phuong shared: “We cannot expect all students to be good. Some students who are good at sports are not good at culture, some students who are good at fine arts are not excellent in natural subjects, etc. Requiring students to have high levels of proficiency in subjects will make them feel inferior, not daring to speak up and be confident. Therefore, I proposed this initiative, subject teachers will divide the amount of knowledge to teach the main curriculum according to each student group. The good news is that teachers at the school all integrate, combine, and tutor students who have not achieved. From there, at the end of the year, the overall quality of the school will improve gradually.”

Principal Nguyen Hong Phuong has many topics and initiatives, contributing to improving the quality of teaching.

Thanks to appropriate solutions, the quality of education at Duong Minh Chau Secondary School is increasingly improving. In the 2024-2025 school year, the school had 15 students participating in the provincial excellent student competition, of which 13 students won prizes; 12 students were admitted to Hoang Le Kha High School for the Gifted, a proud result for a school in a remote area.

Mr. Nguyen Dai Hai, a teacher at Duong Minh Chau Secondary School, shared that Ms. Phuong is a person who dares to make decisions, dares to do things, and dares to take responsibility for the group. She has many initiatives in her field as well as regularly encourages and creates solidarity among colleagues to teach and nurture students. Focus on life skills education

Understanding the role of companionship, Ms. Phuong always closely connects school - family - society. At the beginning of the school year, she organizes meetings and discussions with parents to share about student psychology and skills to accompany children. It is this understanding and closeness that helps create a sustainable bridge between teachers, parents and students.

Not only focusing on cultural knowledge, Ms. Phuong also pays special attention to teaching life skills to students. Every morning at the beginning of the week, the school spends 30 minutes in the flag-raising ceremony to integrate topics of ethics, preventing school violence, life skills, etc. to students.

“In such activities, the students are very excited to participate in speaking. That shows that they have acquired knowledge and skills, and what is even more exciting is that we have created confidence in students when speaking in front of a crowd, a very necessary skill for them,” the Principal happily said.

With the motto "rain soaks into the ground", the school's seminars and experiential activities have gradually impacted students' awareness, helping them behave properly, form good personalities and know how to protect themselves from temptations and many current tricks of deception.

Tran Thien Kim Bao, a 9E student at Duong Minh Chau Secondary School, shared: “The thematic activities have helped us gain more knowledge, especially life skills. From there, we understand better about good and bad things, what to do, and learn how to protect ourselves better, especially clearly identifying fraudulent behaviors that are very common on social networks today, avoiding unfortunate things from happening.”

Along with that, Ms. Phuong often cares for students in difficult circumstances, helps poor students overcome difficulties to go to school, contributing to limiting the situation of students dropping out of school halfway.

In addition to her expertise, she also strongly mobilizes social resources to improve facilities. In the 2022-2023 school year, she called for more than 1 billion VND to build a school yard, pave it, and add a folk playground; in 2023-2024, she continued to mobilize the installation of a canopy worth 253 million VND to make the school yard more spacious and cooler. From there, students have more space to play and participate in collective activities, helping them feel "Every day at school is a happy day".

In the past 5 years (2020-2025), Duong Minh Chau Secondary School has always been the leading unit in emulation movements, the number of excellent students winning provincial prizes year after year is higher than the previous year. Every year, the enrollment rate for grade 6 is 100%. The school was awarded the Second Class Labor Medal in 2019.

Ms. Phuong herself was also honored with many noble awards: Third-class Labor Medal (2018), Second-class Labor Medal (2025), National Emulation Fighter, Meritorious Teacher.
