Valedictorian returns to old school...
Young, confident, and charming - That was our first impression when we met teacher Trinh Duc Thao. He was humble when asked about his achievements, but when we learned the reason for the interview, he was happy and relaxed.
Teacher Thao said: If my work, teaching experience and passion can spread to someone, then I have indirectly done something useful, right?
And our conversation with him became close and friendly like old friends meeting again.
From a young age, Trinh Duc Thao had cherished the dream of becoming a teacher, not that “the profession chose him”. To “make” that dream come true, Thao made constant efforts through all levels of education and in 1995, student Trinh Duc Thao was the valedictorian of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Viet Bac Pedagogical University (now Thai Nguyen University of Education).
With an excellent degree, Mr. Trinh Duc Thao has the right to choose the best possible working environment, but he has ignored many "valuable" invitations to return to his beloved school - Doc Lap Secondary School - the place that nurtured his soul and imparted knowledge to him during his childhood years.
He shared: Perhaps returning to the school where I used to study is one of the luckiest things in my life. I was born and raised in Trung Thanh land, I somewhat understand the environment, living conditions, and personalities of the people here. After a period of struggling and growing up, I was able to return, bringing the knowledge I have learned and acquired to pass on to generations of students who are the children of my friends, brothers, sisters... in my homeland. I truly feel lucky and happy!
Never stop trying
As a teacher, Mr. Thao understands that if he wants good students, he must also be good. So throughout his teaching career until he later became a manager, he never allowed himself to stop trying, to stop striving, but always self-study and practice.
Recalling the day he received the title of Excellent Teacher awarded bythe President , he said: That was the most memorable memory in my life. At that moment, I was extremely moved, happy and proud. Every face of the teachers who had taught me over the years, every face of the students I had taught suddenly appeared before my eyes like a slow-motion film. I really appreciate and am grateful to all those people who supported and helped me to achieve success.
Although he works in management, he still directly teaches and trains the excellent student teams of the School and the city. With the desire to spread knowledge and experience to many colleagues, every year, Mr. Thao organizes teaching seminars, attracting 50-60 teachers to attend. The topics he chooses are all practical for teaching practice in each stage, such as: Teaching grammar through communication; Guiding 9th grade students to review for the 10th grade entrance exam; Applying Azota software in testing and evaluating student quality...

Mr. Thao confided: As an English teacher - a subject that always faces many difficulties because many students do not really love and are not confident when communicating in English, I always research and actively innovate teaching methods, get close to students, help parents clearly understand the importance of learning foreign languages, and prepare for their children's future. To improve the quality of English teaching and help students love the subject, my colleagues in the Foreign Language Group and I regularly discuss, exchange and implement many topics, such as: "Organizing pair-group activities in foreign language classes"; "Exploiting and teaching well a reading comprehension hour", "Teaching well a new language introduction hour", "Teaching well a 9th grade English speaking hour"... My colleagues and I also successfully organized many extracurricular English topics, such as: "Foreign language gala", "Language camp", "English speaking contest" and "Foreign language usage day". Especially, there are exchange topics with foreign experts, helping students become more confident and love the subject more.
Harvest many "sweet fruits"
Over 27 years of teaching, Mr. Thao has been awarded the title of Excellent Teacher at the provincial level 5 times; 15 times awarded the title of Excellent Teacher at the city level; 20 times awarded the title of Excellent Teacher, Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level and 2 times awarded the title of Emulation Fighter at the provincial level; received many Certificates of Merit and Certificates of Merit from all levels and sectors... Voted as a typical individual in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh.
The English team of the city participating in the provincial-level excellent student selection exam, guided and trained by Mr. Thao, always achieved high scores and had many students pass the entrance exam to Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted and the National University's Language School; hundreds of excellent students at school, city, province and national levels (199 excellent students at city level; 131 excellent students at provincial level; 14 excellent students at national level...).
“In my opinion, the important condition to be successful and to be respected by students is that teachers must be steadfast in their professional expertise and truly be a shining example for students to follow. Science today develops at a dizzying speed, if we are satisfied with what we have, we will not be left behind, so teachers must always self-study, actively research and innovate teaching methods, especially must be proficient in using information technology to apply to teaching and management.” - Teacher Thao shared.
“The teaching profession requires a pure heart, because the product of a teacher is not iron or wood but the heart and mind of a person. A teacher who is passionate about his profession will overcome all difficulties in everyday life. That is the root of compassion that every teacher needs to preserve as a precious asset of a teacher...” - Teacher Trinh Duc Thao has been living and working with that mindset!
