Eliminate temporary housing, build a new future
Temporary, dilapidated houses are the concern of many poor families in Ben Tre . Hidden behind the rickety roofs are people who are always worried about rain, wind, illness, and deprivation. Realizing this clearly, Ben Tre Provincial Youth Union has proactively and widely deployed the movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary, dilapidated houses" among union members and youth.
Mr. Vo Tuan Thong, Deputy Secretary of Ben Tre Provincial Youth Union, said that the Provincial Youth Union aims to eliminate 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses for all households headed by young people by October 2025. At the same time, it will join hands with other forces to help near-poor households, meritorious people and disadvantaged families in the locality. Of which, 30 houses headed by young people will be newly built and 5 others will be repaired. Although the number is modest among more than 1,000 temporary and dilapidated houses in Ben Tre province, it demonstrates the spirit of young people proactively creating change and accompanying those who are still in difficult situations.
Accordingly, the district and city Youth Unions are assigned specific targets, at least 7 houses per locality, and at the same time call for the support of businesses, people, and social organizations. The support level is clearly defined: 60 million VND for new construction and 30 million VND for repairs, ensuring transparency, efficiency and avoiding waste of resources.
According to Mr. Thong, this plan does not stop at material support, but the union members, especially the youth volunteer teams, also participate in labor days, transporting materials, leveling the ground, building frames, and pouring foundations. Each brick laid, each corrugated iron roof covered is the crystallization of the kindness, sharing, and dedication of the young people of the coconut land. The campaign is also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of "devotion - action - dedication" of the youth in the cause of building the homeland.
Throughout the implementation process, the Provincial Youth Union has always adhered to the motto "Those who have a lot help a lot, those who have little help a little, those who have money contribute money, those who have merit contribute merit". Hundreds of union members and young people in volunteer teams in communes, wards and towns have not been afraid of difficulties, contributing thousands of working days, accompanying the government and people to carry out each construction item.
Accompanying people to build a new life
One of the notable highlights in the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Ben Tre province is the active participation of young armed forces, including police, border guards, militia, etc.
"The Ben Tre Border Guard force participates with the desire to not only contribute to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for the people but also inspire and spread the image of soldiers in the hearts of the people, who accompany the people to build a new life. This is the combination of political courage and the heart to serve the community, the core qualities of young people in the armed forces", affirmed Lieutenant Colonel Doan Ngoc Bau, Political Commissar of the Ben Tre Provincial Border Guard Command.
Having been supported with a new solid house, Ms. Nguyen Thi My Dung (63 years old), residing in Thanh Phong commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre, happily shared: "The situation of a widow raising 2 children in a house collapsed after a storm is extremely miserable. I am extremely grateful for the gesture of Co Chien Border Guard Station for sending forces to directly participate in rebuilding the house and mobilizing support of 70 million VND to help the family overcome this difficulty."
Joining his teammates in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, Lieutenant Vo Tuan Kiet, working at Co Chien Border Post (under the Border Guard of Ben Tre province), shared: "I personally feel happy because I have contributed my youth to bring joy to the disadvantaged people in the locality, helping them have a solid house so that they can work, produce, and stabilize their lives."
