Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien and the long slide of a "national beauty queen"

Thuy Tien's journey from the peak of glory to her fall into the law was not long. This is also a regrettable and expensive lesson for the young generation in today's digital age.

With the title of Miss Grand International 2021, after a brilliant coronation night on the international stage, Thuy Tien has spent 3 years surrounded by the halo of fame when becoming the first Vietnamese beauty to be crowned Miss Grand International. What this beauty showed afterwards helped her to be praised as the "national beauty queen."

However, now when facing criminal charges, not only Thuy Tien has stumbled upon a shocking fall in showbiz, but this "sentence" will be a wake-up call for many other famous people who are engrossed in "parasitizing" on illusions to profit from the community's trust.

"Slip" from the peak of glory

Having gone through a difficult childhood when her parents divorced early, Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien (born in 1998) became independent from a young age, studying and working part-time. She graduated from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University), fluent in English and French, then transferred to study International Hotel and Restaurant Management at Hoa Sen University in 2019. In 2025, she received a master's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the Swiss School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHMS University).

On the night of December 4, 2021, in Thailand, Thuy Tien reached the peak of her career as the first Vietnamese person to be crowned Miss Grand International. Domestic and international media praised her for her confident response with a humane message and modern style.

From here, Thuy Tien's life officially "blossomed." Every move of the beauty was "covered" in international newspapers and events, becoming an ambassador for many brands. Images of the new Miss often participating in charity campaigns made her affectionately known as the "national beauty queen."

It can be said that the new title immediately became a "launching pad" to help Thuy Tien shine. Thanks to that, she received many advertising contracts, becoming the representative face of large and small brands at home and abroad... The amount of money that the beauty earned from these activities, according to the President of Miss Grand International, Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil, revealed in 2022, is from 2-3 million USD.

Realizing her influence, Thuy Tien has ventured more strongly into the field of media and commerce. Not only is she the face of beauty products, functional foods, etc., she has started livestreaming to sell products. In particular, the vegetable candy project also involved her as a shareholder contributing 30% of capital to Chi Em Rot Company - the product distributor, not simply "signing an advertising contract" as she initially declared.

The pressure from the halo and virtual power of the crown may have made Thuy Tien “blind.” She, like many other beauties who have been in trouble with the law, “stumbled” early because of greed. It is difficult for a beautiful and young person, standing at the peak of fame, to control her own greed.

That is why on May 19, the Investigation Police Department, Ministry of Public Security prosecuted and temporarily detained Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien for the act of "Deceiving customers" (according to Article 198 of the Penal Code), related to the Kera vegetable candy product. This is the result of expanding the investigation into the case of manufacturing fake food products at Asia Life Joint Stock Company and Chi Em Rot Company.

"Verdict" in the era of "trading trust"

The investigation agency determined that Thuy Tien received nearly 7 billion VND in commission. It is blameworthy that, despite knowing clearly that the fiber content in the product was very low and the effects were not as advertised, Thuy Tien still provided false information to deceive consumers. Even after being “exposed” by public opinion, in order to “appease,” Thuy Tien proposed to sign a contract to “legalize” the advertisement to avoid being named a shareholder.

Previously, from around December 2024, Thuy Tien caused a stir in public opinion when she advertised Kera vegetable candy. On the evening of April 4, Dak Lak Provincial Police issued a decision to temporarily suspend her exit from the country. According to this unit, Thuy Tien was temporarily suspended from leaving the country from March 15, 2025 to May 15, 2025 to serve the verification and investigation work.

Notably, Thuy Tien was determined to have received nearly 7 billion VND in commission from the sale of more than 135,000 product boxes (total revenue of nearly 18 billion VND). When the case began to be investigated, she proposed to change her role from shareholder to “advertising partner” to avoid legal responsibility – according to the initial conclusion from the investigation agency.

The beauty once hailed as a symbol representing a generation of independent and modern young Vietnamese women is now facing legal proceedings, and even a sentence if convicted.

Thuy Tien used to be the representative face of many brands.

However, this incident is not just an individual's slip, but it reflects the increasingly common reality of society: Celebrities, especially KOLs, turn themselves into "tools to profit" from the community's trust, only to lose their reputation, honor, career and commit crimes.

On the other hand, consumers are also gullible and lack verification of advertisements, leading them to be led and deceived. They easily believe that Kera candy is a product that supplements fiber from vegetables, suitable for people who do not eat vegetables as the "idols" say, until the authorities determine that the product does not have a fiber content that meets the advertised standards (only 0.935% instead of 28%) and the beauty queen shows signs of deceiving consumers.

Thuy Tien, the beauty who once made Vietnamese people proud when she won an international crown, has now become a "symbol" of uncontrolled ambition. It can be said that the journey from the peak with a radiant halo to falling into the law is really not long. This is also a regrettable and expensive lesson for the young generation in today's digital age./.

After the case of prosecution and temporary detention for the accusation of deceiving customers, the online community continued to wonder if Thuy Tien would be stripped of her Miss Grand International crown because of the scandal?

Previously, the Miss Grand International Organizing Committee announced that it had stripped the title of Miss Grand International 2024 Second Runner-up from Miss Thae Su Nyein (Myanmar), due to her inappropriate behavior and actions, violating regulations. Up to now, the Miss Grand International organization has not appointed anyone to replace this second runner-up position.

Also in the history of the contest, beauty Anea Garcia (Dominican Republic) was stripped of her crown after nearly 5 months of being crowned Miss Grand International 2015, because she was busy with her studies and had demands outside of her contract. After that, 1st runner-up Claire Elizabeth Parker from Australia was given the Miss title again. But in 2019, her crown was revoked again because she participated in the Miss Universe Australia contest.

In addition, beauty Yuvna Rinishta (Mauritius) - 5th runner-up Miss Grand International 2022 gave up the title just three days after being crowned because she failed to complete her mission. Beauty Tina Batson (Venezuela) also gave up the title because she was abandoned by the pageant's organizers.
