On October 29th, the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing, China, took place.
This marks a new milestone in the development of friendly relations and cooperation between Vietnam and China in general, and between Vietnam and the western region of China in particular.
Attending the opening ceremony, on the Chinese side were Mr. Hu Xinghua, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Vice Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee, and Mayor of the Chongqing People's Government; Mr. Long Zhou, Director-General of the Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China; and numerous representatives from agencies, units, districts, and counties of Chongqing city and Sichuan province.
On the Vietnamese side were Mr. Pham Thanh Binh, Vietnamese Ambassador to China; Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Head of the Central Committee's Policy and Strategy Department; Mr. Doan Hoang Minh, Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam; representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy and Consulates General in China; a large number of Vietnamese expatriates, businesses, and students in China; and many Consuls General and representatives from Consulates General of other countries in Chongqing and Chengdu.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government , Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh emphasized that the establishment of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing reflects the consistent policy of the Vietnamese Party and State to continuously consolidate and expand friendly cooperative relations with China, promote exchanges and cooperation between localities of the two countries, and attach importance to deepening cooperation and strengthening connections with Chongqing and Sichuan, localities that play a crucial strategic breakthrough role in the new era of the Great Western Development and the comprehensive center for domestic connectivity of China, in line with the strong and comprehensive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent years.
The presence of the Vietnamese Consulate General here not only has significant political and diplomatic importance, but also opens a new, direct, and effective channel of connection between Vietnam and dynamic localities in China, contributing to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership and promoting the building of a strategically significant Vietnam-China community with a shared future.
Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh stated that, along with the positive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent times, cooperation between localities of the two countries has become increasingly vibrant and effective, becoming a highlight in bilateral relations. The Chongqing-Sichuan region is emerging as a leading center of industry, logistics, and science and technology in China.
More and more Vietnamese localities have been promoting friendly cooperative relations with Chongqing city and Sichuan province in fields such as transportation, logistics, high-tech agriculture, tourism, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
Vice Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee and Mayor Hu Xinghua and Director-General of the Consular Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Long Zhu warmly congratulated the opening of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing; emphasizing that the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing is an important event in the context of the two Parties and two countries, China and Vietnam, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 2025 Year of People-to-People Exchange, marking a new stage of development in the friendly relations and cooperation between China and Vietnam.
Chongqing Mayor Hu Xinghua and Director-General of the Consular Affairs Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Long Zhu affirmed that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chongqing city government will closely coordinate and create favorable conditions for the Consulate General to successfully fulfill its mission as a bridge for exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing, Sichuan, and Vietnamese localities. They expressed confidence that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing will make positive contributions to promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership and building a strategically significant China-Vietnam community with a shared future; as well as promoting the continuous development of exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing city and Sichuan province with Vietnamese localities in the future.

Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing, Bui Nguyen Long, affirmed that the establishment of the Consulate General is a concrete realization of the common understandings and high-level agreements between the leaders of the two Parties and two States, demonstrating the strong determination of both sides to develop the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in an increasingly substantive, effective, and sustainable manner.
As a new bridge in Chongqing, the "Bridge Capital of the World," the Consulate General of Vietnam will contribute to connecting Vietnam with Chongqing and Sichuan Province; striving to promote exchanges between ministries and localities of both sides, boosting cooperation in economics, trade, investment, culture, tourism, education and training, people-to-people exchanges, and strengthening understanding, trust, and friendship between the people of the two countries.
At the same time, the Consulate General will also serve as a common home for the Vietnamese community in the Chongqing-Sichuan region.
Also at the opening ceremony, a fashion show of the Ao Dai collection by designer David Le (Le Anh Tuan) took place, conveying to Chinese and international friends a message of national pride and the aspiration to build the country in the new era.
