Opening of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing

The opening of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing is a new milestone in the development of relations between Vietnam and China in general, and Vietnam and Western China in particular.

On October 29, the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Chongqing, China took place in Chongqing city, China.

This is a new milestone in the development of friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and China in general, and Vietnam and the western region of China in particular.

Attending the opening ceremony on the Chinese side were Mr. Hu Xinghua, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, Mayor of the Chongqing Municipal People's Government; Mr. Longzhou, Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China; and many representatives of agencies, units, districts and counties of Chongqing City and Sichuan Province.

On the Vietnamese side, there were Mr. Pham Thanh Binh, Vietnamese Ambassador to China; Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee; Comrade Doan Hoang Minh, Director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam; representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy and Consulates General of Vietnam in China; a large number of overseas Vietnamese communities, businesses, and Vietnamese students in China; and many Consuls General and representatives of Consulates General of countries in Chongqing and Chengdu.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government , Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh emphasized that the establishment of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing demonstrates the consistent policy of the Party and State of Vietnam to continuously consolidate and expand friendly cooperative relations with China, promote exchanges and cooperation between localities of the two countries, attach importance to deepening cooperation, strengthening connections with Chongqing and Sichuan, localities that play the role of important strategic breakthroughs in the great development of the West in the new era and the Center for comprehensive connection and opening up of China's domestic economy, in line with the strong and comprehensive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent times.

The presence of the Vietnamese Consulate General here not only has important political and diplomatic significance, but also opens a new, direct and effective connection channel between Vietnam and dynamic localities of China, contributing to deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, promoting the building of the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance.

Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh said that along with the positive development of Vietnam-China relations in recent times, cooperation between localities of the two countries has become increasingly vibrant and effective, becoming a bright spot in the bilateral relationship. The Chongqing-Sichuan region is emerging as a leading industrial, logistics, science-technology center in China.

More and more Vietnamese localities have been promoting friendly cooperation with Chongqing city and Sichuan province in areas such as transportation, logistics, high-tech agriculture, tourism, culture, education and people-to-people exchange.

Chongqing Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor Hu Xinghua and Director of the Consular Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Longzhou warmly congratulated the opening of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing; emphasizing that the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing is an important event in the context of the two Parties and countries of China and Vietnam celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 2025 Year of Humanitarian Exchange, marking a new step of development in the friendship and cooperation between China and Vietnam.

Chongqing Mayor Hu Xinghua and Director of the Consular Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Longzhou affirmed that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chongqing Municipal Government will closely coordinate and create favorable conditions for the Consulate General to successfully fulfill its mission as a bridge for exchange and cooperation between Chongqing, Sichuan and Vietnamese localities; expressed their belief that the Vietnamese Consulate General in Chongqing will actively contribute to promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, building a China-Vietnam Community of Shared Future of strategic significance; as well as promoting exchange and cooperation between Chongqing City and Sichuan Province with Vietnamese localities to continuously develop in the coming time.

Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long affirmed that the establishment of the Consulate General is the concretization of common perceptions and high-level agreements between the leaders of the two Parties and the two States, demonstrating the strong determination of both sides in developing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in an increasingly practical, effective and sustainable manner.

As a new bridge in the “Bridge Capital of the World” - Chongqing, the Vietnamese Consulate General will contribute to connecting Vietnam with Chongqing city and Sichuan province; make efforts to promote delegation exchanges between departments and localities of the two sides, promote cooperation in economics, trade, investment, culture, tourism, education-training, people-to-people exchange, and enhance understanding, trust and friendship between the two peoples.

At the same time, the Consulate General will also be the common home of the Vietnamese community in the Chongqing-Sichuan area.

Also at the Opening Ceremony, there was a performance of the Ao Dai Collection by Designer David Le (Le Anh Tuan), sending to Chinese and international friends a message of national pride and aspiration to build the country in the new era./.
