BWF announced the 48th week rankings on November 29. Accordingly, Nguyen Thuy Linh officially returned to the top 20 highest-ranked players thanks to her achievement of reaching the quarterfinals of the China Masters badminton tournament - the last Super 750 tournament of the 2023 season.
At the tournament in China, Thuy Linh played impressively to reach the quarterfinals, most notably with a surprise victory over 2016 Rio Olympic champion Carolina Marin (Spain).
This achievement helped Vietnam's number one tennis player accumulate 6,050 more points, moving up two ranks, from 22nd to 20th in the world with 48,200 points.
In the rankings for tennis players qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Thuy Linh has accumulated 6,050 more points, increasing 2 places from 16th to 14th with a total of 44,900 points.
The badminton singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics has 38 places for men and 38 places for women. In each gender, there is one place for the host country France and two wildcard places. The remaining 35 places are determined based on the position in the "Paris Ranking", which opens from May 1 and closes on April 28, 2024.
The list of players who have won tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics will be officially announced based on the "Paris Ranking" on April 30, 2024. Currently, Thuy Linh is ranked 14th with a total score of 44,900 and she will continue to compete in international tournaments to maintain a high ranking, thereby achieving the goal of winning a ticket to Paris.
In her first appearance at the Olympics in 2021, Thuy Linh was not seeded in her group. Despite winning two matches and losing one, Vietnam's number one tennis player could not advance.
The 2023 China Masters is the last international tournament in 2023 that Thuy Linh will participate in. The first tournament in 2024 that the number one Vietnamese female tennis player will participate in is the Malaysia Open, taking place from 9-14/2024.
