57 years have passed since her husband died, but her story about him is still told with emotion.

Like many other patriots, with the desire to unify the country and the desire for peace , in October 1953, young man Nguyen Dinh Bau volunteered to join the army, participating in missions in many battlefields.

In April 1966, he participated in journalism activities at the Liberation News Agency and the Tri Thien - Hue Military Zone Newspaper. In September 1966, he was mobilized to work in the Thua Thien - Hue battlefield as a reporter for the Liberation News Agency and the Tri Thien - Hue Military Zone Newspaper. Being an enthusiastic and passionate person, he always rushed to the front lines to create vivid journalism works. In August 1968, journalist Nguyen Dinh Bau heroically sacrificed his life while participating in writing an article while working in an anti-sweep battle in the Thua Thien Hue battlefield.

In Mrs. Huu's memory, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Bau was a quick-witted, intelligent man who loved his wife and children. During his days off, he always spent time doing housework, talking to them, being close to them, encouraging them to study hard, and helping their mother when their father was away from home.

Talking about his beloved father, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung - son of journalist and martyr Nguyen Dinh Bau, could not help but sadly say that since he was a child, the two of them were often separated because their father had to go to the battlefields to perform his duties. The image that Mr. Hung always remembers is the times when his father came home on leave, always carrying a lot of books in his suitcase. He taught his son to do housework, taught him to love books and oriented his studies so that he could become a useful person for society in the future.

Mr. Hung still remembers the last letter his family received from his father, which was in June 1968. In the letter, journalist Nguyen Dinh Bau told his eldest son Nguyen Dinh Long that if he finished 10th grade and failed the university entrance exam, he should continue to join the army to fight the enemy to protect the country's sovereignty . As for Mr. Hung, who is still young, he should try to study well and help his grandmother and mother with housework.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung burned incense for his father - journalist and martyr Nguyen Dinh Bau at Nghi Son town martyrs cemetery.

“Following my father’s advice and with my mother’s encouragement, in August 1970, when he was just 19 years old, my brother volunteered to join the army. In 1972, he died in the Central Highlands campaign,” said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung.

When mentioning her eldest son Nguyen Dinh Long, Mrs. Le Thi Huu was very proud and moved: “Her son sacrificed for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland when he was only in his twenties. Although the father and son are no longer there to take care of, she always receives the attention of the Party and the State. She lives in a warm and happy family with her son Nguyen Dinh Hung and is always cared for and looked after by her children and grandchildren. Around her, there is often sharing and visiting from neighbors and the younger generation, that is the greatest happiness in her life.”

With her contributions and sacrifices for the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland, in 2014, mother Le Thi Huu was awarded the noble title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother by the President.

Lighting incense on her husband's altar, Mrs. Le Thi Huu shared more about her family's long-standing pain that had become a reality. After many years of traveling everywhere to find and bring his grave back to his hometown, joy came to the family in 1999. That was when a local person accidentally found his burial place next to his relatives and sent his son to the family, along with related units, to bring the remains of journalist Nguyen Dinh Bau back to the Nghi Son town Martyrs' Cemetery for burial.

Proud of his respected father, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hung always collects documents about martyr Nguyen Dinh Bau and carefully preserves them to remind his children and grandchildren of gratitude and efforts to strive to improve.
