Vietnam is witnessing a strong wave of upgrading its Internet infrastructure to meet the increasing demands of individual users and businesses. It is worth noting that telecommunications service providers are focusing on expanding bandwidth and improving transmission quality without increasing prices, creating many benefits for the digital economy .
Network operators simultaneously increase minimum bandwidth
From April 2025, FPT Telecom announced that it will officially launch a program to upgrade the minimum bandwidth to 300Mbps for customers using the company's Internet services. Accordingly, new customers will immediately experience packages with a minimum speed of 300Mbps; existing customers will be upgraded from 150Mbps to 300Mbps.
This bandwidth upgrade not only helps improve network access speed but also optimizes the experience on digital platforms. From studying, working, online entertainment to online business, users will have the opportunity to use the Internet with better quality, meeting the increasing demand as Internet traffic increases.
Since 2018, this is the fifth time this network has upgraded bandwidth for customers. Previously, in 2022, FPT Telecom was also the first network to announce an unlimited bandwidth Internet service of up to 1Gbps.

VNPT representative also said that from April 1, 2025, all new Internet packages of this network will also be provided with a minimum speed of 300Mbps, nearly 2 times higher than the average speed of Vietnam's Internet today.
Not long ago, Viettel also launched a program to upgrade bandwidth by up to 50% for customers using fiber optic Internet services from October 2024.
Users using 80Mbps-100Mbps bandwidth packages will be upgraded to 150Mbps; 120Mbps-180Mbps will be upgraded 1.5 times respectively. Users using 200Mbps bandwidth will be opened unlimitedly, up to 1Gbps, and committed to a minimum of 300Mbps-400Mbps depending on the package.
According to the Speedtest Report conducted by Ookla, Vietnam ranks 35th in the world in terms of fixed-bandwidth Internet speed. Data recorded in February 2025 showed a download speed of 164.77 Mbps and an upload speed of 144.98 Mbps.
According to global Internet speed reports from Ookla Speedtest Global Index, the average fixed broadband speed in the world varies by time and country but fluctuates around 100Mbps. In Vietnam, the average speed from December 2024 to February 2025 reached 167Mbps.

Therefore, the minimum speed of 300Mbps is very high compared to the current average, compared to the world and equivalent to the average of the 5 countries with the best network infrastructure in the world (Singapore - 345Mbps, UAE - 313Mbps, Hong Kong - 312Mbps, Ireland - 295Mbps, France - 290Mbps). Providing 300Mbps as a minimum shows that Vietnam's Internet infrastructure is developing rapidly and outperforming the world trend.
This is a breakthrough in the strategy of upgrading infrastructure, optimizing the system and proactively increasing Internet speed to bring superior experience to users. At the same time, implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, increasing the speed of Internet packages provided to mass customers will create an important network foundation, ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and national digital transformation.
Trend of upgrading infrastructure, improving Internet speed
In recent times, major telecommunications companies in Vietnam such as VNPT, Viettel, and FPT Telecom have continuously invested in fiber optic network infrastructure and data centers. The expansion of the Internet fiber optic network and the widespread deployment of 5G technology are also being promoted to improve Internet stability and increase access speed.
The simultaneous upgrade of Internet speed without increasing prices is a positive signal, helping to strongly promote the digital economy, supporting businesses and individuals in using digital services more effectively.
The policy of increasing free bandwidth is a strategic step by network operators, demonstrating their long-term vision in bringing high-speed Internet to all users nationwide.

This is part of the National Information and Communications Infrastructure Planning roadmap, with the goal of ensuring 100% of households nationwide have access to fiber optic Internet by 2025.
The policy of upgrading infrastructure without increasing prices not only helps individual users but is also an important driving force for the development of the digital economy. When Internet speed is improved and usage costs are reasonable, businesses can easily digitally transform, apply AI, IoT to their operations.
In addition, maintaining stable prices also helps Vietnam maintain its attractive position in the eyes of technology investors. Many large corporations are interested in locating data centers and representative offices in Vietnam due to its increasingly developed infrastructure at reasonable costs.
In the future, with the development of technology and the increasing demand of users, upgrading the minimum speed may become a common trend in the telecommunications industry. This is not only a race between network operators but also an important step to help Vietnam integrate deeply into the global digital economy./.
