Music researcher Dang Hoanh Loan passed away.

Music researcher Dang Hoanh Loan - who made effective contributions to building the heritage dossier of ca tru, hat xoan, don ca tai tu, bai choi... to submit to UNESCO for recognition as Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, passed away on June 3, in Hanoi, at the age of 82.

Researcher Dang Hoanh Loan was born in 1943, his hometown is Chuong My, Hanoi . In 1963, he graduated from the Faculty of Traditional Musical Instruments - Vietnam Music School (now Vietnam National Academy of Music). From 1964 to 1975, he was the conductor of the Inter-zone V Opera and Drama Orchestra.

Since 1976, he has been a researcher and collector of folk music at the Institute of Music Research, then he was Deputy Director of the Institute of Music (1996-2005); at the same time, he was the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the Scientific Bulletin Magazine (now the Music Research Magazine of the Institute of Music - Vietnam National Academy of Music).

In the field of composition, he has many works with strong national musical colors, such as "Suoi dan t'rung hat", "Nghe ke h'ri", "Huyen su gong dong", "Chuyen tinh nui va song"... He also composed music for the plays "Qua than va pho tuong da", "Duyen no tinh doi", "Chon quan truong"; composed music for some traditional stage plays such as tuong, cheo, Hue opera, ca troi bai choi...

In research and publishing, he has contributed to scientific works such as "Quang Tri Traditional Music", "Special study of Vietnamese Ca Tru", "1000 years of Thang Long - Hanoi" (5 volumes), "Complete collection of research on Phu Tho Xoan singing", "Then singing of Tay - Nung - Thai Vietnam" (3 volumes), "Looking back at 20 years of music research (1999-2019)", "Historical documents of Vietnamese ancient music"...

Researcher Dang Hoanh Loan also participated in ministerial-level research projects such as "Ho song Ma"; "Culture of the Ma River sub-region"; "Water puppetry of Ra village"; "Cheo Khuoc Thai Binh"...

He was the one who directly conducted and guided the fieldwork, researched and built the National Dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition as Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding for the Ca Tru heritage dossier; the Phu Tho Xoan singing heritage dossier; the Southern Don Ca Tai Tu heritage dossier; the Central Bai Choi heritage dossier; the Tay - Nung - Thai Then practice heritage dossier.

Music researcher Dang Hoanh Loan is one of the people who has a deep understanding and knowledge of Vietnamese music, including folk and traditional music. His research works are very valuable in preserving and promoting the values ​​of Vietnamese music. He was passionate and diligent in researching music until the last days of his life.
