The information was shared by Deputy Director of the Music Institute Dang Thi Hoai Thu with Tuoi Tre Online at noon the same day. The family is currently preparing for his funeral.

Researcher Dang Hoanh Loan is the leader of the largest field trip in our country's history to learn about Ca Tru, and is also the person who directly prepared the dossier to submit to UNESCO to list Vietnam's Ca Tru art as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Devoting a lifetime to traditional music

Artist Mai Tuyet Hoa calls researcher Dang Hoanh Loan "teacher". After graduating from university, Tuyet Hoa worked for a while at the Institute of Music and was guided, mentored, and accompanied on several field trips to learn about traditional national music.

When she heard the news of his death, she was "shocked and heartbroken". Mai Tuyet Hoa told Tuoi Tre Online that he was "a passionate person who devoted his whole life to folk music", "following the path of practical research, not just on paper".

Mai Tuyet Hoa said she still remembers what he said: "Life is always moving, so is traditional or folk music."

"Uncle Ho wanted Vietnamese traditional music to be preserved in the most correct way and not be mixed. However, he was very progressive, not conservative and clearly distinguished between preservation and promotion, encouraging the young generation to promote the great heritage of their ancestors," the artist added.

In his research career, not only was he one of the people who contributed greatly to putting Ca Tru on the list of intangible heritage of humanity, Mr. Dang Hoanh Loan also had many notable works on Then singing, Cai Luong singing... "All of his research is valuable and has high reference value," Mai Tuyet Hoa assessed.

Romantic in the field of research

Research on Vietnamese traditional music from field practice published last year is the final research work of researcher Dang Hoanh Loan.

In the introduction to the book, Dr. Pham Minh Huong, director of the Institute of Music, called him "a romantic musician with a play of words".

In Ms. Huong's memory, researcher Dang Hoanh Loan was a "happy, generous, kind, sincere and also very enthusiastic, talented and serious person at work".

According to her, during his youthful years, "Uncle Loan" loved composing, traveling, and writing music and staging performances.

But since being assigned as manager, he has had to put aside personal interests to devote himself wholeheartedly to the development of the institute.

Since then, the work of writing and researching traditional music has "followed him until now, when he is over 80 years old".

It seemed that when he retired, he would return to his passion for "playing music notes", but he was still absorbed in research, diligently writing pages like a hard-to-quit career.

Wandering in the field of research, he has produced many valuable brainchildren. "Every word is distilled from his singing, learning, and experiences after nearly half a century of collecting and doing fieldwork in his homeland."

Also in the book summarizing his research career, researcher Dang Hoanh Loan confessed that he wanted to send "very private thoughts and passionate love for traditional Vietnamese music".

According to him, that music "has contributed to human culture a musical language rich in expression and containing high cultural content, truly reflecting the thoughts and feelings of the Vietnamese people throughout history."
