According to information from the family, researcher Dang Hoanh Loan passed away at 2:15 a.m. on June 3. The funeral will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on June 5 at the Cau Giay District Funeral Home, and the memorial service and funeral will be held at 9 a.m. the same day. His body will be buried at Thien Duc Cemetery Park.
Music researcher Dang Hoanh Loan was born in 1942 in Ha Dong. He was formerly Deputy Director of the Institute of Music and Head of the Editorial Board of the Institute of Music's Scientific Bulletin.
With over 40 years of musical activities, he is one of the most dynamic and creative musicians in many fields: performance, composition, conducting, research, music theory and management.
From 1959-1963, he studied and graduated from the Faculty of Traditional Musical Instruments, Vietnam Music School (now Vietnam National Academy of Music).
From 1964 to 1975, he conducted the Inter-zone V Opera Orchestra. From 1976, he was a researcher and collector at the Institute of Music. In 1996, he became Deputy Director of the Institute of Music and Editor-in-Chief of the Institute of Music's Scientific Bulletin.
His typical music research works: Studying the musical structure in the Tam Tu Tuong class, A sketch of Quang Tri folk and traditional music, Developing traditional music - goals, results and problems, Ca tru - things seen, Central Highlands gongs - existing from nothing.
In addition to research and theory, he also participated in many other musical activities, especially composing instrumental and vocal music. Some typical works: Legend of the bronze gong (poème ballet, 1990), Listening to H'Ri (dance music), Suoi dan T'rung hat (encore of 20 T'rung); composed music for 5 new musical plays: The Crow God and the Stone Statue, Betel and Areca, The Official's Place, A Thousand Years of Love and Hat, and Pham Cong-Cuc Hoa.
He has two music albums , Mountain and River Love Story and Premonition (Music Publishing House 2007).
He was the one who directly conducted and guided the fieldwork, researched and built the National Dossier to submit to UNESCO for recognition as Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding for the Ca Tru heritage dossier; the Phu Tho Xoan singing heritage dossier; the Southern amateur music heritage dossier; the Central Bai Choi heritage dossier; the Tay-Nung-Thai Then practice heritage dossier.
Composer Mai Van Lang expressed his deep condolences to music researcher Dang Hoanh Loan: "Music researcher Dang Hoanh Loan is one of the few people who have a deep and thorough understanding of Vietnamese music, including folk songs and traditional music. His research works are very valuable to posterity. For me and my colleagues who work on folk songs, he is like a living dictionary."
For his contributions, he was awarded the Third Class Medal of Resistance Against America for National Salvation, a Certificate of Merit from the Government and a 25-year Medal of the Cultural Sector.
