The talk to launch the book Three Thousand Fragrant Worlds had the participation of many teachers of the Faculty of Literature such as Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Xuan, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quang Truong, Master Ngo Tra Mi; writer Tran Thuy Mai, translator Que Son, writer Huynh Trong Khang (editor of the book); students and many readers who love writer - teacher Nhat Chieu.

Author Nhat Chieu talks about the beauty of Japanese poetry as well as the new chapters he included in the book.

For many generations of students and literary friends, everyone must know the book Three Thousand Fragrant Worlds - one of the excellent books on Japanese literature by Nhat Chieu. From a book compiled in a context of lack of materials, Three Thousand Fragrant Worlds has reached a large number of readers who love Japanese literature.

Republished after 9 years, Three Thousand Fragrant Worlds has 9 new chapters (the overall structure remains the same) added after part 2 - the poetry commentary, helping the work that has already "said what needs to be said" to become more complete. The first part of the academic book is about Japanese poetry with its own aesthetic feelings - especially the sparkle of Haiku poetry. In part 2, the author notes that although it is a poetry commentary, the 9 new chapters added will be more difficult to read because there are very broad connections between Eastern and Western poetry, beyond the "expectation" of readers.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Xuan shared that she considered Nhat Chieu one of the important Vietnamese authors after 1975. She was also one of the teachers who trained many generations of literature students and held a respectful attitude towards him, especially for what he had contributed to writing in general and composition in particular. For many other generations of teachers, Nhat Chieu's books were important indicators in the study and research of Japanese literature.

Three Thousand Fragrant Worlds, or some other "bedside" books of Nhat Chieu, although published in the early period when there was a lack of materials, he captured the spirit of the subject and "pointed the eye" very well in his works.

Writer Tran Thuy Mai shared that she admired Nhat Chieu very much and soon got to know him through the book Japan in the Looking Glass.

Borders of Vietnamese poetry - Haiku poetry

Writer Tran Thuy Mai (author of the famous historical novel series Princess Dong Xuan ) shared that she also admires her fellow writer Nhat Chieu. She carefully read his work Japan in the Looking Glass (another very good book about Japanese literature).

During the talk, she asked writer Nhat Chieu whether Vietnamese people, with the existing Vietnamese poetry forms/trends (such as folk songs or new poetry), can succeed in composing Haiku poetry (because she observed authors through Haiku poetry competitions that have been organized). Writer Nhat Chieu cited the case of poet Nguyen Trai with two excellent verses:

Open the door at night to wait for the scent of cinnamon to come in,

Sweeping the porch on the day of tears, the flower's shadow disappears.

( The Mirror of the Realm, Lesson 33)

He said that since the 15th century, Vietnamese poetry, especially in the case of Nguyen Trai, has been very aware of the fragility and ephemeral life of flowers. This awareness was so strong that Nguyen Trai did not dare to touch the shadow of the osmanthus flower, a normal flower, even trivial if judged by medieval poetic standards. In Japanese Haiku poetry, the poet Chiyo clearly expressed this awareness through the fragile life of the asagao flower (morning glory):

Oh morning flower!

The bucket rope is covered with flowers by the well.

Have to ask for water from next door.

This meeting in creative consciousness is not accidental, even though in different cultural contexts and different aesthetic objects. He affirmed that although there has not been any successful Vietnamese Haiku poet, if there is a "spirit of reviving ancient poetry" (the words used by Nhat Chieu), then perhaps Vietnamese poets will be successful with Haiku imbued with the Vietnamese spirit.

The talk opened up many dimensions of reception and unique interpretation of poetry through the case of Three Thousand Fragrant Worlds . Perhaps, one of the factors that helped the book to be widely accepted by readers is because, as writer Tran Thuy Mai said, it could be due to the author's qualities, and also due to his way of explaining the most complex things in the simplest, easiest-to-understand way.
