Her face was hot with sweat, but she was still happy and did not slow down. Her patience, devotion and silence moved me. It was a very small moment, maybe she had long forgotten it, but I remember it forever. Because in it was kindness, affection and a heart that knew how to think of others, without any restraint.
Do you believe that people often remember each other just because of a certain moment? It doesn't have to be a big thing. Sometimes, it's just a small detail, a simple but loving word, an action that leaves a lasting impression.
Last weekend, my family went out to eat. As we sat down at the table, I told my daughter: "I remember when you were little, I used to grill meat for you at this restaurant. At that time, you picked up a piece of meat for me and said: Mom, eat it, you have to eat it too." I was surprised to hear my voice choke up a bit, and my daughter sitting next to me was a bit confused. Perhaps she didn't expect that such a small action from her childhood would remain so intact in her mother's heart. Or simply because she realized that it had been a long time since she remembered to take care of her mother so attentively...
Among all the endless care of my mother, I cannot forget the time when I was a student, renting a room with my younger brother in a small alley in Saigon. My mother came from the countryside to visit, just sat down to look around the messy room, and before she could rest, she rushed to the market. When she got home, there were big and small bags: some fresh lemons, ginger, lemongrass, some beef and broccoli - my favorite food. Plus some kitchen bricks, even a toilet brush... Those small everyday things were how my mother took care of us, fully and quietly. Without having to say anything, just looking at the things my mother brought, I understood how much my mother cared.
Several years have passed, but on the day my father passed away, heavy and turbulent as if a long life had just passed, my close friend stopped by the hospital. While I was disoriented, she didn't say much, just silently ran with me from room to room to take care of the procedures. In a convenient moment, she quietly stuffed some money into my hand: "Just take it, we can manage." Hasty, but full of understanding. Sometimes affection doesn't need to be expressed in words, but rather in the right moment, with a practical action at the time when others are most confused and helpless.
There are memories that don't need to be searched for, nor even tried to be recorded, because they are always there in our hearts, alive. Sometimes, just a little "touch" is enough to bring back emotions, gentle, simple and very real. And perhaps, it is these seemingly trivial moments that become the strong thread that connects us with our loved ones throughout the journey.
