At noon on October 24, while the floodwaters were still high, in order to clear the flow and help the floodwaters drain faster, dozens of people in Ngu My Thanh village (Dan Dien commune, Hue city) joined forces to push water hyacinth out of the lagoon and river system. This work was also supported by the Dan Dien commune police and the security and order protection forces at the grassroots level.

Mr. Phan Van Huynh, Head of the Security Team of Ngu My Thanh village, Dan Dien commune, said that due to the impact of storms, floods and heavy rains in the past 2 days, the amount of water hyacinth from various places pouring into Ngu My Thanh village is estimated at more than 20 tons. The amount of water hyacinth is dense in the entire Tam Giang lagoon in Ngu My Thanh village and neighboring villages.

This situation has caused many ponds and lakes where people raise shrimp, crabs and fish to "disappear". The dense and dense water hyacinth with an unprecedentedly large quantity has greatly affected the movement of boats - the main means of transport for people in the Tam Giang lagoon during the rainy season and affected the fishing and aquaculture of the people.

Mr. Nguyen Van Xe (residing in Ngu My Thanh village, Dan Dien commune), one of the people who participated in pushing away water hyacinth at noon on October 24, said that in previous years, after each flood, the dense water hyacinth caused environmental pollution, affecting the health of people living in the river area. Although the authorities and people carried out many collection and treatment campaigns, due to the large amount of water hyacinth, spreading out and shallow water in many places, the collection work encountered many difficulties. Meanwhile, water hyacinth grows very quickly, slowing down the water regulation process, making it difficult for farmers to cultivate and raise animals.

Mr. Phan Van Huynh also said that in addition to the duckweed in the ponds and lagoons, a large amount of water hyacinth also "followed" due to the flood water overflowing onto the road. "In the immediate future, people are trying to push the duckweed to deep water areas to clear the way for the duckweed to flow to the sea. In the process of "fighting" the duckweed, the local authorities and the forces participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level also reminded and propagated that people must be careful when traveling by boat and entering deep floodwater areas," said Mr. Huynh.
Not only in Ngu My Thanh village, but also in many villages in Tam Giang lagoon and in many communes and wards of Hue such as Phong Dinh, My Thuong, Phu Duong, Vy Da, Phu Vang, Phu Bai..., the amount of water hyacinth is appearing with an estimated quantity of hundreds of tons.

In Quang Dien commune, floodwaters are rising and water hyacinth is also densely invading the lagoons of the villages in the area. Local people and authorities are still pushing the water hyacinth to deep water areas to flow out to sea.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Minh Binh, Chief of Quang Dien Commune Police, said that by noon on October 24, the water level of the Bo River through the area continued to rise, causing a number of provincial roads, inter-village and inter-commune roads to be deeply flooded again.

Specifically, Provincial Road 19A, passing through the Quang Dien Commune Police Headquarters, was flooded about 0.5m; Provincial Road 8A, from Pho Nam B Village to Niem Pho Village, was flooded more than 0.9m. At Provincial Road 4, passing through the old Quang Phuoc Commune, the section passing through the Spillway was flooded 1m deep. In addition, many inter-village roads were flooded from 0.3m to 0.6m.

To ensure the safety of people, the Quang Dien Commune Police are currently controlling traffic in flooded areas to guide people and vehicles and ensure traffic safety. At the same time, the Commune Police have just set up additional barriers and warning signs on deeply flooded roads.
