Over the past few days, authorities have been mobilizing manpower and equipment to temporarily clear one lane of the road. However, as of October 30, some locations in Kham Duc commune were still blocked due to the large amount of rock and soil that had spilled onto the road, and could not be repaired immediately.
From the mountainous commune of Ben Giang to Kham Duc commune, the Ho Chi Minh road through this area is about 40 km long but there are dozens of large and small landslides. In recent days, this area has recorded a very large amount of rain, so the soil and rocks here have "absorbed" water, become saturated, ready to collapse at any time, causing danger to people and vehicles passing through here. The locations of the landslides are right next to the road or the soil and rocks from high mountains flow down and overflow onto the road surface.
Along the Ho Chi Minh road through Ben Giang commune, there are a number of residential houses, so as soon as landslides were discovered, authorities quickly put up warning signs and mobilized excavators and bulldozers to temporarily clear the rocks and soil so that vehicles could pass through.
In the area passing through Kham Duc commune, the landslides are widespread, the volume of earth and rock is very large, with rocks weighing several tons lying in the muddy soil. On the afternoon of October 30, at the scene, only one excavator and a small bulldozer were recorded to be starting to clear the landslide site that had been blocked for two days, in the direction from Ben Gieng commune going up.
According to the excavator driver, there are still some similar serious landslides in Kham Duc commune and it is expected that it will take a few more days to temporarily open the Ho Chi Minh road through Da Nang city.
Currently, the repair of landslides depends largely on the weather. If there is heavy rain, all work must be temporarily stopped to ensure safety because this area is still at very high risk of landslides from the upper mountains.

The Ho Chi Minh Highway is one of the main routes connecting trade between the Central Highlands provinces to Da Nang city. On the afternoon of October 30, many trucks carrying goods on this route continued to wait, hoping that the road would be cleared soon.
Nguyen Van Hoa, a driver from Hanoi , shared that although he had been informed about the landslides at many points on the Ho Chi Minh Highway, due to the delivery schedule in Kham Duc Commune, he still had to move on the route and had been waiting for two days at the rest stop area. Drivers hope that the authorities of Da Nang City will mobilize more human resources and specialized machinery to speed up the process of clearing serious landslides and reopening traffic soon.
