A survey and ranking of the 10 most searched tourist destinations worldwide this year by Spain-based travel company eDreams Odigeo showed that Thailand's capital Bangkok ranked 4th, just behind London (UK), Paris (France) and New York (USA).
Also included in eDreams Odigeo's list of the 10 most searched destinations in the world in 2023 are Barcelona (Spain), Istanbul (Türkiye), Tokyo (Japan), Rome (Italy), Milano (Italy) and Madrid (Spain).
Citing the survey, spokesman for the Thai Prime Minister's Office Chai Watcharong stressed that this ranking reflects the popularity of the "Land of Golden Pagodas" as a globally popular tourist destination and has the potential to develop further.
Mr Chai also cited the Traveloffpath website’s assessment that Bangkok is one of Asia’s most popular destinations. It stands out for its unique blend of ancient temples, bustling markets, and serene landscapes, offering visitors a cinematic journey-like experience. In addition, Bangkok boasts historical marvels such as the Grand Palace and Wat Arun, beautifully adorned with vibrant street life, floating markets, and rich food streets.
The spokesman said Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of all agencies in promoting the stronger development of Thailand's tourism industry, and thanked tourists for showing their trust and enthusiasm for Thai tourism.
