As a province with a strongly developed sports movement, in recent years, along with many other sports, women's football in some localities in the province has developed strongly, attracting a large number of "beautiful girls" to participate.
Play your best
Almost every week, on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, the women's football team (more than 30 people) of Chi Le village, My Thai commune (Lang Giang) practices and competes at the village's football field. Dressed in healthy football player uniforms, the players play with all their might, many fierce tackles, beautiful goals receive applause from the audience. Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (born in 1983), a fruit seller at My Thai market - one of the team's excellent players, shared that when she was young, she loved playing football. Later, she got married, had children, and was busy farming, so she did not have time to play this sport. In 2020, the village's women's football team was established, and she and her eldest daughter signed up to participate. Every time the team competes in and out of the district, her husband and children follow to cheer. "Sitting selling fruit all day, with little exercise, my body is very tired. Since joining the team, I feel healthy, eat well, and feel refreshed. The best thing is being able to interact with everyone," Ms. Phuong confided.

Currently, 8/8 villages of My Thai commune have women's soccer teams that regularly maintain activities. On weekend evenings, the soccer fields are always brightly lit, attracting a large number of people to watch and cheer. When organizing tournaments, many benefactors sponsor tens of millions of dong. In addition to awarding prizes to teams, players, and tournament organization costs, the surplus money is added to the fund to spend on humanitarian charity activities, promoting education, helping poor members, etc.
In other communes of Lang Giang district such as Xuan Huong, Thai Dao, Dai Lam, An Ha, Tan Hung... the women's football movement is also developing strongly. Lang Giang district is the unit that has won the women's football championship many times at the Provincial Sports Festival. Many female athletes who are attached to the sports movement of the commune and district often go to exchange and compete with famous women's football clubs outside the province. A typical example is Ms. Bui Thi Phuong (born in 1986) in Tan Hung commune, who works as a taxi driver and is considered a "seed" player of the commune and district. Tall, with short, healthy hair, every time she plays on the field, she is considered the "trump card" of the team. Ms. Dao Thi Mo, Deputy Director of the Center for Culture - Information and Sports of Lang Giang district, said that currently most villages in the district have football fields (with lighting). Every two years, the district organizes a women's football tournament to select players to compete at the provincial level; At the same time, it creates cohesion between football teams and promotes sports movements in the area.
The Chi Le village women's football team, My Thai commune (Lang Giang) celebrates victory at the 2024 Open Men's and Women's Football Championship organized by the village.
In the mountainous district of Son Dong, these days, the Women's Union of An Chau town organized a women's football tournament to celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day, October 20. The tournament attracted the participation of 13 football teams from residential groups with different occupations (farmers, workers, traders, teachers, etc.). In recent days, at the central stadium of Son Dong district, many spectators came to watch and cheer for the athletes. "In addition to awarding trophies, medals, and bonuses to the first, second, and third teams, the Organizing Committee also awarded prizes to the player who scored the most goals, the best goalkeeper, and the team with the best playing style," said Ms. Hoang Thi Chung, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of An Chau town.
Encourage and promote the movement
In recent years, women's football in some localities in the province has attracted a large number of people to participate. Many clubs and teams have been established and are operating in a disciplined manner. Localities with a developed women's football movement include Lang Giang, Yen The, Luc Nam, and Hiep Hoa. Despite their busy schedules, women always take the initiative to spend time practicing and interacting. In addition to organizing commune-level tournaments, Lang Giang and Yen The districts regularly organize district-level women's football tournaments that attract a large number of viewers.
In Yen The district, from 2016 to present, on the occasion of Yen The festival, the district Women's Union coordinated with the district Culture - Information and Sports Center, the district Labor Federation to organize a women's football tournament. Mr. Dang Viet Hung, Director of the district Culture - Information and Sports Center, said that in order to improve professional quality, communes and towns regularly organize tournaments, inviting strong clubs and teams from many places to exchange. The district Culture - Information and Sports Center supports communes and towns in terms of expertise when organizing tournaments such as: Consulting on planning, regulations, referee work, etc.
The 2024 Yen The District Women's Football Championship attracts many excellent players from communes and towns to participate.
Currently, most communes and towns in Yen The district have football fields, creating conditions for people to practice and compete. Many female players have participated in football since they were students, later becoming university students, but every time they return to their hometown, they still actively participate in exchanges and build the movement. Nguyen Phuong Anh (born in 2006), from Phon Xuong town, is currently a student at a university in Hanoi , and has participated in the town's football team for many years. With her ability to cover, good physical strength, and quick movements, Phuong Anh always plays in the midfielder position. In the district tournament, Phuong Anh is considered a "golden pair of legs", scoring many goals against the opponent, and was awarded the title of excellent player. "Every time I return to my hometown, I still maintain training, exchanges, and compete with football clubs to improve my health and promote the movement," Phuong Anh confided.
At the Bac Giang Provincial Sports Festival, women's football is one of the sports included in the competition, thereby aiming to discover and select excellent athletes to introduce to professional football clubs for training and development. Although it has received attention, this sport has not yet developed evenly in localities. The organization of the annual women's football championship of Bac Giang province has not yet been held (apart from the provincial sports festival held every 4 years). Currently, only a few localities maintain the organization of district-level tournaments.
In order for the women's football movement to develop and spread further in the community, the relevant authorities and localities need to continue to pay attention to promoting propaganda; mobilizing resources, doing a good job of socialization, investing in building sports institutions. On the other hand, increasing the organization of tournaments and exchanges between football teams and clubs, thereby contributing to promoting the sports movement, improving health, and creating solidarity among the people./.
