Journalist Quynh Huong, the artist's granddaughter, said she passed away at the Viet Xo Friendship Hospital at around 3:10 a.m. this morning (May 24). "During her last days, she lived happily and had no illnesses. When she was too weak, her family took her to the hospital for better care, but birth, aging, illness and death are inevitable," said Quynh Huong.

She has retired from acting for nearly 20 years, staying home to enjoy her children and grandchildren. In real life, the artist once owned a chain of wedding dress stores called Mai Chau, which was famous in Hanoi since the 1990s.
During her lifetime, she had a happy marriage with Mr. Vu Ky Lan. They had two sons and two daughters, both successful.
Artist Mai Chau was born in 1927 in Vinh, Nghe An . At the age of 19, she married Mr. Ky Lan. During the August Revolution in 1945, she joined the Women's National Salvation Force and then the Vinh City Self-Defense Force. In December 1945, she and her husband followed the army to the South. After completing her mission, she continued to stay in the South and participated in artistic work in the Liberation Army Propaganda Group. In 1947, she became an actress in the Tien Tuyen Drama Group.
At that time, the head of the art troupe in the battlefield was writer Nguyen Tuan. In 1956, she was officially accepted into the Vietnam Film Studio (later the Vietnam Feature Film Studio) and began working in the dubbing department with actors Trinh Thinh and Duc Hoan. Later, the whole group participated in the casting audition and were selected as official artists of the Film Studio.
She played about 30 roles, big and small, in feature films, many of which became classics in the history of the Vietnam Feature Film Studio. Her outstanding role was Nghi Que's wife - a scheming, cunning woman in the film Chi Dau. The role was so impressive that from then on, Mai Chau was continuously assigned negative roles such as Pho Doan (film Sao Thang Tam), Ba Kien's wife (film Lang Vu Dai ngay ay), Hoang Thai Hau (film Dem hoi Long Tri). Later, the artist became familiar to audiences through the roles of grandmothers and mothers in the films Cua de danh, Bi, dung so.
