With a model of combined farming and livestock farming on an area of 3 hectares, the family of veteran Byuh (Dak Mong village, Dak Krong commune) is one of the households with high income in the village.

He said: Developing a comprehensive economic model will create a closed farming process that helps take advantage of waste and fertilizer to reduce investment costs and improve economic efficiency. Therefore, in these 3 hectares, he uses 2 hectares to grow coffee, 1 hectare to grow pepper, cassava, corn, upland rice and maintains cattle breeding.

Every year, he uses crop waste to feed his cows and uses cow manure mixed with coffee husks to fertilize his crops. Thanks to this, his family can reduce production investment costs.

“To improve production efficiency, I have recently attended training courses to learn how to apply techniques to plant and animal care. Thanks to that, with the coffee and pepper growing area, after deducting expenses, my family earns more than 350 million VND each year. As for the herd of 7 cows, I do not sell them but maintain them for fertilizer. In addition, I also give 4 cows to other households to develop the economy together,” said Mr. Byuh.

Similarly, the family of veteran Vu Van Hoi (village 4, Dak Krong commune) also increased their income by combining coffee and pepper cultivation, raising swiftlets and selling fertilizers. He said: His family has 3.5 hectares of land for growing coffee. In 2018, when the coffee trees were old, he replanted 3 hectares and planted 5 sao of pepper. By 2021, he invested in building more swiftlet houses to improve his income.

“For coffee and pepper cultivation, I choose organic farming. Every year, I use coffee husks composted with cow manure, molasses and Trichoderma yeast to fertilize the plants. Thanks to that, the plants grow well, are less susceptible to pests and diseases and have high yields.

On average, each year I harvest more than 10 tons of coffee beans and 500 kg of pepper. After selling the products and deducting costs, plus profits from fertilizer business, I earn 1-1.2 billion VND/year.

Regarding the birdhouse, recently, the family harvested 10 kg of raw bird's nests, selling for 160 million VND. With this comprehensive economic model, the family has a more stable source of income" - Mr. Hoi affirmed.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Van Nga - Chairman of the Association of War Veterans in Dak Doa district - informed: Recently, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in the district has implemented many activities to support members in economic development such as: helping to borrow capital, organizing tours to effective economic models in and outside the district, mobilizing members to participate in training courses on techniques for caring for plants and animals.

In addition, the Association also orients members to develop the economy in a comprehensive manner, combining cultivation and animal husbandry to improve economic efficiency. Up to now, the Veterans Association members have built 57 farms and 833 households, many of which have farms and economic models with an income of 2-3 billion VND/year.

In addition to taking care of economic development, the district's war veterans' association members also actively participate in local movements and activities. From 2019 to now, the district's association members have donated over 1.1 hectares of land, contributed nearly 1.4 billion VND, participated in 11,625 working days to build rural roads and lighting lines; contributed additional funds to the State to help 19 members eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses; effectively maintained 11 "Accompanying children to school" models; sponsored and regularly supported 12 students in difficult circumstances.

Therefore, in recent years, many collectives and individuals have been rewarded by all levels, sectors, and Veterans Associations at all levels for their achievements in good production and business and in participating in patriotic emulation movements in the locality.
