The joy of teaching

In September 2025, she received her retirement notice. By the time she retired, she had spent 33 years teaching. Although she was past her prime, she still maintained the same unwavering and warm passion for her profession as she did at the beginning. Not only was she an excellent teacher, but she was also a second sister and mother to her students, always attentively listening, sharing, and encouraging them to overcome difficulties in their studies and lives. She confided that if she had another chance to choose a profession, she would still choose teaching, because it was teaching that brought her joy and happiness.

Due to the belief that "girls don't need much education," her parents didn't want her to continue her studies after finishing high school. In the poor rural area nearly 40 years ago, it was normal for girls to leave school early to help their families and then get married. However, in the heart of that young woman, the flame of love for teaching had been ignited since her school days. She dreamed of one day standing on the podium, teaching and inspiring students like the teachers who had guided her.

Overcoming prejudice and family objections, she was determined to pass the entrance exam to the local Teacher Training College. Her years of study were challenging, marked by material hardship and a lack of family support; however, it was also a journey that honed her character and nurtured her love for the profession. After graduation, she was assigned to teach Literature at a rural middle school. With her passion for teaching, she persevered and dedicatedly imparted knowledge, helping generations of students to love literature, appreciate the beauty of language and life, and become useful members of society.

After more than 30 years of teaching, she still maintains the same enduring and warm passion for her profession as she did at the beginning. Not only is she an excellent teacher, but she is also a second sister and mother to her students, always attentively listening, sharing, and encouraging them to overcome difficulties in their studies and lives. Many generations of her students have grown up, some have become her colleagues, which makes her even more proud of her work.

Now, with her hair turning gray, she always feels fulfilled whenever she looks back on her journey. The teaching profession has given her joy and happiness – the happiness of imparting knowledge, witnessing her students' growth, and contributing a small part to the noble cause of nurturing future generations. Her story of overcoming prejudice to pursue her dream is a vivid testament to the resilience, faith, and love for the profession of teachers today.
