On November 8, in Dong Chay hamlet (Phuoc Luong village, O Loan commune), floodwaters were still 1-2 meters deep, turning the whole hamlet into an "oasis". The road leading to the hamlet was submerged in water, completely isolating 218 households. Authorities and volunteers worked hard to provide supplies to the people in the hamlet.

Immediately after storm No. 13, floodwaters from the Ky Lo River poured down, causing houses in Dong Chay hamlet to gradually sink. People hurriedly moved their belongings up higher, but the water level rose so high that many things were still submerged.

Volunteers moved relief supplies onto the river to deliver to people.

Mrs. Pham Thi Xuyen (67 years old) said: “Yesterday the flood came suddenly, the river water rose quickly and flooded the whole village. My house was flooded by a meter. This morning, the water receded a bit but the road to the village is still deeply flooded.”

Because the entire hamlet was flooded, the well water source for daily use could not be used. The food and drink of all the people here depended on bottled water, instant noodles, bread and other necessities brought in by the government and volunteers.

Dong Chay hamlet is located in a low-lying area, surrounded by rice fields and a river flowing through. Every time there is a prolonged heavy rain, water from the upper Ky Lo river flows down, causing this area to quickly become flooded.

Ms. Dang Thi Hoa shared: “The storm just passed yesterday and blew off the roof of my house. Before we could fix it, the floodwaters came. The well was also flooded, and there was no clean water to use. We had to wait for outside support for drinking water and food.”

To provide timely relief to isolated households here, this morning, volunteer groups, local youth groups and grassroots forces used small boats to transport food and drinking water to each household.

Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Hang, Secretary of the O Loan Commune Youth Union, said: “In the morning, 15 youth union members were present, coordinating with volunteers to deliver relief supplies to the people. While moving through the vast water area with many whirlpools, we had to be very careful to ensure the safety of both people and supplies.”

According to the Party Secretary of O Loan Commune, Nguyen Van Tinh, in addition to support from volunteer groups, this afternoon, the commune's mass organizations also organized to cook rice to provide supplies to isolated households in Dong Chay hamlet.

In the afternoon, the Commune Front also transported and provided each household with a 20-liter bottle of filtered water so that people could have water to use.
