Worrying when children are on summer vacation
During summer vacation, children are happy because they can play freely and do not have to worry about studying... but the joy of children is a constant worry in the hearts of parents. Although summer has only just begun for a short time, we have heard complaints from parents who are "very worried when their children have summer vacation".
A month before her child's summer vacation, Ms. Pham Mai Huong, from Dong Tam Ward, Vinh Yen City, asked around to find a place to send her child. She had to take the initiative early because she was afraid that she would not be able to find a place to send her child when the summer vacation was over. "My grandparents are old and live far away, while my husband and I both work, so summer is the hardest. Both of my sons are very active, the youngest is only 6 years old this year, so we need an adult to look after them to feel secure," Ms. Huong explained.
Through relatives and friends, she finally registered for a childcare spot at a kindergarten teacher’s private home during the weekdays. In the morning, she would send her child there to review knowledge. At noon, the child would sleep at the teacher’s house and would be picked up at night. The childcare and food fee was 90,000 VND/day, which means about 4 million VND/month for both children.
Unlike Ms. Huong, although it is just the beginning of summer, many families are facing a "headache" when their children do not have to go to school. Especially for middle school students, who are no longer young but not old enough to be responsible for their behavior, summer vacation has many other potential risks. This age group is often curious, likes to explore , likes to try new things, sometimes mischievous. Many parents complain about the situation of their children staying at home all summer, only burying their heads in their phones, computers or gathering with friends to go swimming, go out without adult supervision. Therefore, the risk of drowning, traffic accidents, being lured into wrongdoing... is always lurking. Meanwhile, many parents, because of their livelihood, cannot closely monitor their children.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Hop Hoa town, Tam Duong district, is worried: "Up to now, I am still wondering who will take care of my two children for the next 3 months. I work all day and my children are still young. It is dangerous to stay home alone, and it is not safe to let them play with their phones or watch TV all day. What I hope most is that primary schools can organize summer classes for children so that parents will have less trouble."
Each age has a common concern of parents. For preschool and elementary school children, parents have to worry about who will take care of their children while they still have to go to work. Many preschools and elementary schools do not organize summer classes, or if they do, they are voluntary and not mandatory. Leaving children at home means no one will take care of them; sending them to voluntary, spontaneous places is not safe; sending them to grandparents is not something everyone can afford...
For a fun and safe summer
Summer vacation is a precious time for children to rest, play, practice life skills and develop comprehensively after a year of studying. To make the summer vacation truly meaningful and avoid unfortunate events that may occur, it is really necessary to have the participation of the whole school, parents, organizations and local authorities. During the summer vacation, all parents want their children to have fun, healthy and useful entertainment, and to be equipped with more talents and necessary life skills such as accident prevention, first aid, escape...
With the goal of bringing children a joyful, safe and rewarding summer, right from the beginning of this summer, the Provincial Youth Activity Center organized the Summer Opening and launched a series of activities in response to the Month of Action for Children in 2025. This is a program within the framework of the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign, at the same time opening a vibrant and rewarding summer for the province's youth and children.
Director of the Provincial Youth Activity Center Ta Thanh Tung emphasized: The program aims to create healthy and useful playgrounds for youth and children, meeting the needs and new trends of the young generation, thereby orienting andeducating them to develop comprehensively in "Virtue - Intelligence - Fitness - Beauty". At the same time, develop personal talents, nurture young talents, contribute to building an increasingly strong Youth Union - Association - Team organization.
Excited about letting his child participate in a soccer class at the Provincial Youth Activity Center, Mr. Tran Duc Thang, Lien Bao Ward, Vinh Yen City shared: "This year's program is designed with a variety of sports activities such as soccer, swimming, badminton, table tennis, basketball, pickleball... which shows that taking care of students to have a proper summer vacation with many safe and useful activities has been and is receiving a lot of attention.
Thanks to these activities, children have the opportunity to play, relax, and learn useful skills to develop comprehensively in terms of physical, intellectual, and spiritual aspects. Personally, I believe that these experiences not only bring a meaningful summer but also help children supplement necessary skills and regenerate energy to prepare for the new school year."
According to the reporter's records, although it is summer vacation, in most localities in the province, primary, secondary and high schools have opened libraries, cultural facilities, playgrounds, gyms and sports halls on school grounds; provided tools and equipment for activities so that students have a place to play, live, read and practice during the summer. These are meaningful activities that demonstrate the concern of all levels, departments, schools, families and the whole society for children, creating opportunities and conditions for them to develop equally and exercise their rights well.
It is necessary to give children a real summer vacation, with useful activities to truly rest and prepare mentally for the new school year. Depending on the conditions of each family, parents choose appropriate activities for their children. In particular, innovating and improving the quality of summer activities in the locality is the desire of parents and the whole society.
Localities need to continue to innovate the way they do things and the forms of summer activities to attract a large number of children to participate; increase the organization of competitions, folk games, book reading, dramatization, film screenings, etc.
A safe, beneficial and healthy summer for children is the wish of every family. To achieve this, there needs to be a coordinated effort between schools, families, localities and the whole society to create an environment for children to grow up in love, protection and the best care.
