On May 4, the Jiu Jitsu competitions at the 32nd SEA Games began. In the women's performance competition, the Vietnamese delegation had two athletes, Hoang Thi Lan Huong and Nguyen Minh Phuong.
What was special about their performance was that the two female fighters brought to the ring "props" such as conical hats and crow-beak scarves, which are very familiar to Vietnamese culture. The unique performance attracted a large audience.
At the end of the competition, Hoang Thi Lan Huong and Nguyen Minh Phuong brought home the bronze medal for the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, and this was also the third bronze medal on the first day of competition in Jiujitsu.
Two Thai athletes Kunsatri Kumsroi and Suphawadee Kaeosrasaen won gold medals in this event. Meanwhile, the silver medals went to the host team Heng Seavheang and Tim Sovanlina.
Speaking after winning the bronze medal, the two female athletes shared: "During the competition, everyone was eager to get the highest medal. Although we were quite satisfied with our performance, we were also quite regretful that we did not get a higher title."
"Regarding bringing the non quai thao and khan bec crow to their competition, this is the idea of the two sisters who want to bring Vietnamese identity to the international arena, so that everyone knows about Vietnamese culture, instead of knowing about the normal hat, the non quai thao is something else special."
