Son Dien farmers unite to build sustainable new rural areas

On October 20, Son Dien Commune Farmers' Association held the 1st Congress of Delegates, term 2025 - 2030.

Attending the Congress were comrade Tran Thi Oanh, Vice President of Lam Dong Provincial Farmers' Association; leaders of the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune; and 75 delegates representing 1,441 farmer members of the whole commune.

Son Dien Commune Farmers' Association currently has 1,441 members, accounting for nearly 90% of the total number of farming households in the commune; of which, party members account for 1.38%, women account for 26% and ethnic minorities account for 99.5%. The whole commune has 10 branches and one professional association, forming a widespread network of activities, contributing to connecting and supporting members in economic development and new rural construction.

In recent years, the Farmers' Association of Son Dien commune has promoted propaganda and mobilized members to change the structure of crops and livestock towards commodity production, applying scientific and technical advances to improve productivity, quality and income.

The whole commune currently has more than 4,400 hectares of coffee, of which many old areas have been converted, intercropped with high-value crops such as durian, avocado, macadamia, passion fruit, mulberry... helping to break the monoculture of coffee and form a sustainable agricultural development direction. Thanks to that, the average income per capita reaches about 50 million VND/year.

Along with production development, the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably" has been widely deployed. By the end of 2024, the commune had 404 households achieving the title of Good Farmer in Production and Business at all levels, accounting for 28% of the total number of members. Many effective models have been replicated such as growing mulberry to raise silkworms, durian, passion fruit, and grafting coffee.

The Association also focuses on building a branch fund to support members in borrowing capital to develop production and take care of their lives. Up to now, 5/10 branches have built an operating fund with a total amount of more than 41 million VND. In addition, farmer members of Son Dien commune actively contribute their efforts and funds to build new rural areas...

The Executive Committee of the Farmers' Association of Son Dien commune for the 2025 - 2030 term was introduced to the Congress.

Son Dien Commune Farmers' Association sets a goal for the 2025 - 2030 term with 16 key targets, striving to build a strong Association organization, improve the quality of members, promote the development of effective economic models, cooperatives, apply high technology and digital transformation in agriculture.

Speaking at the Congress, Comrade Tran Thi Oanh, Vice President of the Farmers’ Association of Lam Dong Province, praised the results that the Farmers’ Association of Son Dien Commune has achieved in recent times. At the same time, she requested the Association to continue to innovate its methods of operation, promoting the central role of farmers in developing the agricultural economy and building new rural areas.

The Congress announced the Decision to appoint the Executive Committee of the Son Dien Commune Farmers' Association, Term I, consisting of 19 comrades; Comrade Ka Hien was trusted to hold the position of Chairman of the Son Dien Commune Farmers' Association for the 2025 - 2030 term.
