Vibrant K'ho cultural space amidst the great festival night
Lang Biang Ward - Da Lat has more than 40 thousand people, of which nearly 25% are ethnic minorities belonging to 25 ethnic groups such as: K'ho, Tay, Thai, Muong, Hoa, Nung, Dao, Cham... For generations, they have together cultivated community life, creating a rich cultural space, imbued with the colors of the mountains and forests. Every festival season, the sound of gongs echoes through the great forest, blending with the bustling drum beats and distant singing, like the common heartbeat of the land and people of the highlands.
From that rich cultural identity, Lang Biang - Da Lat is also blessed with a gentle landscape. Surrounded by mountains, long hills, and a cool climate. The landscape and people together create a unique attraction for ecotourism and community tourism - a direction that harmonizes conservation and development. Visitors coming here not only find beautiful scenery, but also feel the spirit of the land and people of the highlands, where every smile and greeting is full of hospitality.
One of the typical destinations is Cu Lan village, just a few kilometers from the ward center. Located in the middle of the primeval forest at the foot of Lang Biang mountain, the village of about 30 hectares appears like a fairy tale painting in the middle of the forest. Visitors can walk along the small stream, listen to the sound of water trickling through moss-covered rocks, see the stilt houses hidden in the pine forest, or stop by the loom to watch the hands of the K'ho women skillfully shuttle.
In the middle of that space, visitors can find small markets called Chom Hom Market. There, people sell handmade products such as bracelets, cloth bags, decorations made from forest wood...
When the sunset falls, the sound of gongs echoes again. Tourists and locals gather around the fire, enjoy bamboo rice, grilled meat, and rice wine, and listen to stories about ancestors, the mountains, and the K'ho people, as gentle and sincere as the mist on the mountain tops.
Ms. Nguyen Thi To Quyen, a tourist from Da Nang, shared: “I have been to many places, but Cu Lan village in Lang Biang - Da Lat brings a very different feeling. Here, I not only get to see the beautiful scenery but also live in the atmosphere of the village, listen to the sound of gongs, try on brocade dresses, light a fire and grill meat with the locals. That feeling makes me feel like I have returned, touched something very real, very primitive”.
In Lang Biang - Da Lat, about 70% of the people live on farming. Over the years, they have changed their way of working, moving from traditional production to a high-tech agricultural model combined with experiential tourism. On the hillsides, green farms appear with Arabica coffee, strawberries, artichokes, garlic and mushrooms. Visitors can pick the fruits themselves, chat with gardeners, and breathe in the scent of the new land. Some people choose to stay a few days in a homestay of the K'ho people, getting up early in the morning to pick coffee, and in the afternoon learning to weave brocade or trying pounding rice and grilling bamboo-tube rice. It is this authenticity and simplicity that has become the "brand" of indigenous tourism in Lang Biang - Da Lat.
Comrade Tran Thi Chuc Quynh - Party Secretary, Chairman of Lang Biang Ward People's Council - Da Lat said that the K'ho people are becoming the main subjects in developing community tourism. They both maintain their traditional occupation and directly participate in welcoming tourists with sincerity and hospitality.
Since then, many cultural tourism activities have been systematically invested, creating a unique mark of the locality. Destinations such as Lang Biang Mountain, Golden Valley, Cu Lan Village or the Central Highlands gong space not only attract tourists but also contribute to spreading the value of indigenous culture, helping the image of the K'ho people to be closer to friends at home and abroad.
