HOT: Ho Chi Minh City "finalizes" regulations on school entry and exit times for nearly 2.6 million students

(NLDO) - The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has officially issued regulations on school entry and exit times for nearly 2.6 million students in the city, applicable from this school year.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, has just signed a document promulgating regulations on school entry and dismissal times for students of all levels in the city.

Accordingly, implementing Official Dispatch No. 4555/2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training on instructions for implementing general education tasks for the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training proposes the daily study time frame for preschool and general education in the city for the 2025-2026 school year as follows:

For preschool education :

School opening hours: From 6:30 am

- Pick up time: From 7am onwards, no later than 8am

- Time to drop off children: From 4pm

Preschools must have adequate teachers and staff to ensure absolute safety for children during their time studying and living at school.

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has officially issued regulations on school entry and exit times for nearly 2.6 million students in the city, applicable from this school year.

For general education:

-Morning: Time for the first period of the morning: From 7:00 onwards and no later than 8:00. Time for the end of the morning class: No earlier than 10:30

-Afternoon: The first class of the afternoon starts no earlier than 1:00 p.m. and no later than 1:30 p.m. The end time of the afternoon class: No earlier than 4:00 p.m. and no later than 5:00 p.m.

The school has a plan to open the school gates to welcome students from 6:30 a.m., not allowing students to arrive late or leave early to gather in the area in front of the school gate. The arrangement of time slots must ensure smooth traffic in front of the gate and around the school during rush hours.

For schools located close to each other on the same road, it is necessary to coordinate and arrange staggered school dismissal times (at least 15 minutes) to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The leaders of the Department of Education and Training of the city requested: Heads of units proactively arrange school plans, build flexible and appropriate timetables to ensure the correct time frame; ensure the health of children, students and workers at the unit.

People's Committees of wards, communes and special zones monitor, inspect and urge implementation at educational institutions under their management; promptly report and strictly handle violators.

According to the City Department of Education and Training, the issuance of documents regulating school entry and exit times for students of all levels in the 2025-2026 school year will provide educational institutions with a common basis for building timetables.

Consider teaching on Saturdays

For schools that have organized 2 sessions/day, Saturday morning classes are used to organize training for excellent students, tutoring for underachieving students, or other educational activities according to the needs and wishes of parents and students on a voluntary basis.

For schools that do not have the conditions to teach 2 sessions/day, to ensure the time to convey the contents of the General Education Program, schools prioritize arranging classes on the other side of the week, only when conditions are really not met will they arrange classes on Saturday morning.

Thus, the organization of educational activities on Saturdays is considered and flexibly weighed based on the conditions of facilities, teaching staff and practical needs of each school and each locality.
