Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, has just signed a document promulgating regulations on school start and end times for students of all levels in the city.

Accordingly, in implementation of Official Letter No. 4555/2025 of the Ministry of Education and Training on guiding the implementation of general education tasks for the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training proposes the following daily learning timeframe for preschool and general education in the city for the 2025-2026 school year:

For preschool education :

School opening hours: From 6:30 AM

- Child drop-off time: From 7 AM onwards, no later than 8 AM

- Child pick-up time: From 4 PM

Preschools must have sufficient teachers and staff to ensure the absolute safety of children throughout their time at school.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has officially issued regulations on school start and end times for nearly 2.6 million students in the city, effective from this school year.

For general education:

-Morning: First class of the morning: From 7:00 AM onwards and no later than 8:00 AM. End time of morning class: No earlier than 10:30 AM.

- Afternoon: The first class of the afternoon session should not start earlier than 13:00 and not later than 13:30. The afternoon session should end no earlier than 16:00 and no later than 17:00.

The school has developed a plan to open its doors to students from 6:30 AM, preventing students from arriving late or leaving early and gathering in the area in front of the school gate. The scheduling of these hours must ensure smooth traffic flow in front of and around the school during peak hours.

For schools located close together on the same road, it is necessary to coordinate the staggered dismissal times (at least 15 minutes) to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requested that heads of units proactively arrange school plans, build flexible and appropriate timetables to ensure compliance with the prescribed time slots; and ensure the health of children, students, and employees at their units.

The People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones shall monitor, inspect, and supervise the implementation at educational institutions under their management; promptly report and strictly handle units that violate the regulations.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the issuance of a document regulating the start and end times of school for students of all levels in the 2025-2026 school year will provide educational institutions with a common basis for developing timetables.

Consider teaching on Saturdays.

For schools that already have a two-session-per-day teaching schedule, Saturday morning classes are used for advanced training for gifted students, remedial classes for underperforming students, or other educational activities based on the needs and wishes of parents and students on a voluntary basis.

For schools that do not yet meet the requirements for teaching two sessions per day, to ensure sufficient time to deliver the content of the General Education Program, the school prioritizes scheduling classes outside of the week, and only arranges Saturday morning classes when conditions are absolutely not met.

Therefore, the organization of educational activities on Saturdays is considered flexibly based on the physical facilities, teaching staff, and practical needs of each school and locality.
